Some notes on heraldry:
Even in the short period of the Napoleonic Wars, the design of the flag patterns of the various nations changed several times. The reason could be a political one (gain or loss of land) or an aesthetic one. Furthermore, one nation carried more than one flag. Very often each regiment of Infantry carried its own regimental colours in addition to a "Leibfahne". Cavalry had different flags from the infantry and additionally, a flag normally had two distinctive sides, like a coin.
In Histwar, and in other games, Nations are represented by one unique national flag.
In the case of France this is not so much a problem, because the basic pattern is shared by all infantry. The only difference being the inscription in the center (very good solution by JMM) and the corresponding numbers in the corners.
The Italian flag is similar to the French flag in design, it only differs in the inscription. I've therefore erased the number from the inscription.
Other nations, like Prussia and Russia, are more difficult to represent. For these nations the colours of the flag changed within a pattern. Russian infantry flags for example, had coloured corners according to their region of origin. Accordingly, the famous white/green flag of Russia that can be found in most games and all over the internet, is actually the flag of a Lithuanian Regiment. Moscow had red instead and Caucasus had blue. The golden inscription on that flag (removed in my version) is an honorary inscription, not present on all flags.
My version of the Prussian flag is also only correct for one Regiment. Other Regiments had different colours.
The flags of Austria and Bavaria as shown here, were carried by all Line Regiments.
This is a work in progress.
All posted flags may be changed again when I've created new versions that I like better.
The next addition will be the German states I showed earlier until we've a complete set.
For the future it would be great if we could have 2 or even 4 flags per nation.
Once a complete set is posted I'll make an exe installer for easier install.
Thanks, and have fun
