Succesfull Test without Hamachi

I have always problems in the past,for me is the first time that play in MP.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here too.

If we could get a couple more people to try this both ways, forwarding just 21205 or forwarding all the above ports, and get confirmation if it works only with all the ports open, If we could get a couple more people to try this both ways, forwarding just 20205 or forwarding all the above ports, and get confirmation if it works only one of the ways, we'll know how to support network play with routers.  Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately i cannot give technical explanations.
I know that Ajle (host) changed something than yesterday.1° test (i do not know what and also i am curious), and I open all ports suggested.
I am behind a nat ,only join is possible for me.I do not have a IP visible from outside nat.
I do not know if i have a router or not, but today for fist time i have connection for MP.
This is all I know.

In the test with Alfy I only configured 21205, all ok. Alao did a test with G24 and Gros Paul, same thing all OK

Same here, I did it in my Anti Virus package - McAfee, it was all very easy, a couple of minutes only needed.

I have been able to host and join MP games every time, no crash, no lost connection, no problems at all.

WITHOUT Hamachi.

Port forwarding is only for people with routers.  If you don't have a router, you won't have to bother with it.

The NAT shouldn't make any difference, as far as I know, and if I remember right it's in your router.  Once you've forwarded the ports, it should work properly;  the NAT will know what to do. 

The IP address your ISP gives you will be different from the one you have inside your network.  Got to http://www.whatismyip.com to get your external IP address, and give that to someone trying to join.

We need to make sure people can both host and join games if they have a router.

Hook, I think your right. Alfy was behind a NAT (whatever that is) and he was able to join me. Tomorrow I am going to try and get ALFY to host.

I understand the key of the problem is to know if we use a "router" or a "modem".

That seems easy to resolve ... although, trying to know about mine, I read "Linksys Modem Router".

Is it possible my thingamajig is at the same time a router AND a modem ???

Yes, especially if you can connect more than one computer to it.

When you visit a web site, that site needs to know where to return the web pages to your computer.  It uses the same IP address that whatismyip is showing you.  Your internal IP address is likely to be different (for example, 192.168.0.101). 

If my memory works, a hub is a router without a firewall.

I've never heard of such a thing, but I can imagine it happening.  It would be difficult to enforce.

Are you sure it's not a static IP that costs more?  I've seen that a few times.  A static IP does not change; you always keep the same one.  My IP address will change if I log off my ISP for over about 12 hours.

Are you saying that whatismyip returns an address like 192.168.xxx.xxx?  That would be very strange indeed.  Perhaps JMM can get your IP address from one of your posts and PM you with it.

I know that I only join in MP, i cannot host.
Also mitra is in my same NAT.He is  more expert than me for explanations.
I and mitra have try in the past to play  MP.
We tried with Hamachi without success for me.
He instead had always played in MP without problem from vers 1 of LG and i had always problems only now with ver 02b is ok.

That shouldn't be a problem.  Your IP address should never change in the middle of a session online.  You are given a "lease period" to use the same IP address.  If you are still online when the lease expires, the IP does not change.  If the IP address changed often in the middle of an online session, you'd have major problems viewing web pages or downloading files as suddenly the content would be going to the wrong address.

My lease period is 12 hours.  Normally, I leave my computer on 24/7 and I keep the same IP address for weeks at a time.

The address you get with ipconfig is your internal address and can't be used by someone outside your network.  You will have to visit whatismyip to get your external address, and give that to anyone trying to join a game that you host.  Do this every time you host a game unless you're playing additional games right after the first.
