Thanks, Gunner.  The maps shouldn't look cluttered, but there should be enough named features that you can describe most of the map locations by a direction and a distance from a named place.  "... the farm 2000 meters northeast of Bad Essen."

In random maps i make for solo plays i choose to give some fictional names.

If the battle is based in german speaking soil i prefer to use the name -Dorf and -Burg attached to cardinal points ... so Ostdorf is a village in east of map, Westdorf in west... Hilburg is a village/town on an hill... Waldburg is a town near a forest and so on...

If on italian speaking soil i prefer to use latin/roman words like Villa, Borgo... etc... so i can have: Villanova, Borgovecchio, Borgonuovo.... and so

this can give an idea for some fictional names on map
