Someone has played a PBEM game?
Work?
-
I followed the italian forum, so i guess you tried and its not working..? whats wrong with it ?
-
After setup player A and player B the time not advance for second turn player A.
We wait a feedback from english forum or from beta tester.
-
I have a test one on the go, I got the file from the player who started the game, put it into my save/pbem folder and went to the give orders command which took me to the battlefield where I was able to give my orders and hit P when finished, I then sent of the updated file back and am awaiting developments.
At what stage can it be viewed ?.

niknaks has gotten PBEM to work through 20 turns. I'm still trying to figure out from him the exact process. It's not obvious.

Hook
From memory after initial orders each side will be viewing 15 mins of movement, then it stops and saves and then passes on to the next player.
Im in a couple of game at the moment and with a tester.

So you confirm that PBEM working well gazfun?... some people from NBC clan and histwar italian forum have doubts i guess ?

We thought pbem had any problem, but it seems that the normal sequence (like Combat Mission for example) has some problem.
Usually it should be Player A create deploy and give orders, send mail to B; Player B give deploy and give orders and send to A; A plays (dispatch) and give order and send to B...and so on
We tried on these days every night and day in exchangig files and in listening the forums, and even some user that thought he did it.... but the pbem need to be tuned for sure.
JMM is working on it from yesterday and we hope to have a patch (not only for pbem but for other things) on Sunday (please this date is not mandatory, we hope Sunday)
Sorry for that, however the direct multiplay works well (players need to set the same battle speed remember it)
-
So comrades, the Pbem works and works fine even without waiting for a patch
Player A: create the pbem, deploy units and give orders; send file to Player B
Player B: Select Dispatch Orders, deploy units and give orders; send file to Player A
-------
(now keep attention)
Player A: 1- Select WATCH, it will show after a while EXIT; no problem at all it is the Engine that build up the movie; so just SEND the file DO NOT OPEN DISPATCH; send file to Player B
Player B: 1- Select WATCH, 15 minutes of battle like load a replay are shown up, at the end turn off from watch with CTRL+Q
2- Now Select Dispatch Orders and give (if you want) some new order and press P
3- Send file to Player A
------
and so on... sometimes it is Player A to see EXIT sometimes it is Player B to see it for the Engine is building up the orders in a movie to be shown on Watch.
The GOLDEN RULE is: When selecting WATCH you see EXIT after a while do not open Dispatch but JUST SEND THE FILE TO THE OPPONENT
Sorry for this delay in "understanding" pbem, enjoy!
A sends 1st orders to B, B then sends his 1st to A.
A press watch and exit appears...sends file to B without giving orders.
B watch it, quit with CTRL+Q, give his 2nd orders and send to A.
then what if exit appears again!? A cant give his 2nd orders.
-
There will be one time is A to see Exit and one time B to see Exit so A and B will always have time to give orders, the Exit is not to be intended like a missing turn, just like a "compile the movie"
-
we can assume we wont have 2v2 pbem game for a long time. So is this possible technically or if its possible, do you think it may feel enjoyable to play that way;
A and B V C and D
A host, send file to C,
C send file to B,
B to D and then repeat the session... A->C->B->D->A...
-
I like that idea, could you post it on nbc?
-
Sorry, you already did
-
I am really not sure if it ll work technically when going from C to B but we can give it a try if there are two more...
-
Arrange it on nbc, pretty sure G24 will join in. I'm in
-
Good idea in theory, but in practice you are adding another layer of possible file delays - even if it technically works.
What is the advantage over 1v1 PBEM ?.
Lets see over at NBC if we can get four to test it.
