Forest and FOG

I wonder if the forests should not block the line-of-sight in the game. I was just playing Hanau, and I could see the enemy troops marching behind and within a forest. Forests should provide some hiding for covert maneuvers and ambushes, or does the game model only light forests with bushes and small trees?

There are heavy woods, but I don't know if they block line of sight.  I suspect they do.  I'm certain hills block LOS.

The heavy woods block line of sight... in fact, the calculation tries to be precise...
For example:

A (on a hill, 50m)
B (at 0m) ||||||||||||||||||| forest|||||||||||| C (at 0m)

B can't see C.. but it's possible A can see C (just a geometric condition)

Other example
A B _______________ C
A is an Infantry unit.. A doesn't see C
A is a Cavalery Unit and B an Infantery unit.. A sees C

So, it's not always easy to know if an unit can see another one..
That said, HW calculates the threat with the visibility, but also the sound (at short range).
These mechanisms are hidden to the user.

With heavy woods, do you really think that it should be still possible for A to see C? From such an oblique angle wouldn't the foliage hide B? This is really a question, since I never saw anything about such an experiment...

Yes, A is higher than C, so he can see if the geometrical conditions are right...

For example
A  on a hill (50 m)
\
\\
\\\
\\\\
\\\\\___||||||_C1_____ C2
With the good distance, A can't see C1 but he can see C2

You can replace the forest (||||) with a village...

Very interesting.
If is possible 3 speedy question.
1)There is a special case where A see C2 but C2 cannot see A or reverse?
2)Good distance is different for weather condition,snow,rain etc ? i think yes
3)Good distance is different also for light condition,sunrise,midday,sunset,early evening? I have not controlled.

(*) : just a future  exception.. INF hidden in a field of grist.. but this feature isn't yet implemented. Only INF with one battalion can be hidden.

The fastest and easiest way to test line of sight is during the initial setup phase of the game using friendly fog of war.  Move your CinC around your setup area and check which friendly units he can see.  They are updated as he moves.

I thinking if army A is to west and sunrise , army A has bad view and good distance minor.
A cannot see B and B see A.
The same with army to est and sunset.

But is too much sophisticated
It is very well so with distances vary with both meteorology and hour (season), then only to think  'INF hidden in a field of grist'  is great.
