Let's do the same battle and post screenshots/results
« le: 06 mai 2010, 09:39:01 am »
My fellow combattants,

I was thinking about something like a strategy guide for myself on HWLG. But there are many ways to reach victory on the battlefield.
Some of us are already posting and explaining their feats in some of their battles.

So, I came up with the following idea: let's all do the same battle with the same army. Perhaps a new scenario, new map, not too big OoB.
If we then post the results and screenshots on this board, with different strategies and philosophies,  it will give people a tremendous insight in how to approach a battle; this forum post will then serve as a battle manual.

What about?
I myself am just starting out with this game and haven't gotten to proper OoB or map editing yet, so if people like this idea, I hope someone can create nice battle conditions.

I like the idea.  The easiest way to do it would be with one of the HLG supplied scenarios. If you create oob's, maps etc.. you will have to email them to every participant. So if you select a scenario, everyone would also have to play the same side, and have a start day, say Saturday.  What do you think?

The battle with the best result could upload into file depot how sav files for watch all battle.

AJ, great. You're right about the scenario thing.

What is a nice standard scenario for this one? Montebello?

Montebello will do for me.  We have all got to agree on one side, General Chasse as it was your idea you should decide which side we will all be.

Ok Montebello's on the roll today.
Let's do the French side - While typing this, the battle has already commenced :)
Will post the results later in a thread called "Battle Manual: Montebello"

What settings are we using? I would suggest Marker info Vague, Ammo limited, if we go full FOW we wont get many good screens

That's fine; I had a lackluster attempt anyway with my battle, but was using unlimited ammo.
Will try again.

Here are my initial Deployment orders, as you can see I have rearranged my Corps strengths. To keep it interesting I am not going to announce my battle plan yet, guesses are welcome though.

With Marker info Vague, I have quite a limited view on the Allies dispositions

Good ajle , unprotected from only sky.(B52)
I think that you move the corp at south after contact with enemy at center.

Alfiere, you win first prize.  Hold my left and center and when the time is right, turn his left flank. Right now I am selectively feeding in reserve Cav and Arty to my left and center as needed.

Here is a screen of my cav supporting and hopefully protecting a Horse Arty Reg

Every battle I fight I learn something new. That's the beauty of HLG, JMM has created a simulation that has depth and realism.  Can you imagine what HLG is going to be like when all the bugs are ironed out

Am I commiting myself to attack to early? It's all in the timing!!! My enemies flanks are exposed but should I have let him wear down a little more? Attached screen shows my Corps to the North and South committed to an attack plan. The reserve Cav is linking up in support with Ney's Corp attacking from the North. The reserve Corp in the South will protect my right from counter attack.
Also a good screen of French Lancers charging Cossacks
