PBEM Error 15
« le: 14 mars 2010, 11:13:14 am »
My first pbem game so probably me

I receive .pbe file which I place in .../save/pbem folder.   Run LG and select Play by Pbem from menu.
Select Resume a pbem Game from menu.   Save Game menu opens, I select the .pbe file.   Another menu opens with message: "ERROR Read File PBEM: 15"

Opponent has sent two different .pbe files with above result each time.

Appreciate assistance please.

I think it must be the file you receive that's wrong, your Hlg at this stage, is just reading the file.
It could be that the creator has a bug with his map or oob, try it with one of the standard HLG scenarios.
When the creator makes the file, he must follow some exact steps. He must first select fow etc..in game options, he selects the map and oob's in "solo mode", then goes back to the main menu selects "play pbem" then "Create pbem".  The game will then open with the options and maps selected previously. He makes his initial deployment and gives his first orders, then hits"P"
The game closes and then he sends his first file.
I've only just woken up, so I hope I remembered right.

Could you verify you save the xxx.pbe file in the folder save/PBEML?
The error code means there isn't any pbe files in the folder.
Maybe there are several install on your system?

Thank you for replies.

I have the .pbe file in the PBEM Folder.   I only have the downloaded application installed.   I deleted the demo upon receipt of download.

Zip the pbe file and attach it here.  I can only think of one way for you to get the error you're getting, but I need to see the file.

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with the file name.  I loaded it in a game and got the same error you did.

JMM, you need to look at this one.

Never mind, I found it.

Ess1, your file is marked read-only.  You need to change that.  Right click, properties, uncheck the read-only box.

Bloody Hell Hook, you're good.  I had downloaded and tried it too, I would have never thought of checking that.  You learn something everyday

So sending a read only file, the reason is me? Do i have to change that everytime before i send the file to my opponent ?

So sending a read only file, the reason is me? Do i have to change that everytime before i send the file to my opponent ?By the way problem is solved, the file you send to me ess1 is working. Thank you Hook.

Glad it's working.

I have no idea how the file ended up read-only.  I've never had to mess with changing that.  I wonder if the operating system or email program is setting it read-only.   Very odd.

Generally after the files reach a certain size, we start zipping them.  I think the system will warn you if a file is read-only when you try to move it.  As long as you know to reset the file, there shouldn't be a problem.

I have received and returned file so pbem is functioning :D
Many thanks Hook for your taking the time and trouble in sorting this problem.
Lanciere, thanks for bearing with me - be gentle ;)   By the way, although I unticked read only for folder your last file had to be unticked.   No big deal.
