About the light of textures; it varies during the day, max at 12:00 AM, varying with the season too.

JMM, I don't know about France, but in America, noon is 12:00 PM, not AM. :)  12:00 AM is midnight.

Is there any chance of getting a control to set the gamma for the game?  This would help with the darkness of some textures.

Sorry.. 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 01:00 PM --- Right? So, game is wrong

About the gamma... why not, I have to look at the DirectX API about the control of gamma...
That said, I can add a light control cursor in the Option (F7)

Right!  Game is wrong. :)

I'm not familiar with setting gamma in a program.  Just make sure it gets set back to normal when the game is minimized (and reset to the game setting when the game is restored) and when the game exits.

Oh, and while we're at it... make sure the game is paused if it's minimized.  I think you can check for the program losing focus; I'm pretty sure there's an event for that.  Try ALT-Tabbing out of the program while it's running to see the effect on the game time. It passes very quickly.  It's easy to see this in a game video.

Why not use the 24hr clock.  0100 is 1 am, 1 pm is 1300 or 13hrs.   We all have to be indoors at 2359  ;)

Waiting for some answers to the poll :
a/ 00.00 to 23.59
b/ 00.00 to 12.00 AM/PM

To me is mostly indifferent.
0000 - 2359 has the advantage of avoiding any possible confusion. The AM/PM system mught have more appeal to the english and american players. Having said that, I would vote option a (0000-2359).

As we are in a thread about graphic options, what are the possibilities, for instance in a future patch, of setting the game to 16:10 instead of 4:3 ?
I bet that if a poll would be conducted, more than 90% of the players nowadays have wide screen LCD monitors.

Nevertheless, I am progressively more and more amazed with this astounding game. Many, many thanks JMM for providing the opportunity to have this gem in our lifetimes !

Regards.

Sean E, at least those views are less offensive for my eyes, even if not conventional.
Figure out playing in a crepuscular ambiance and compare your situation with mine. For example meadows are dark green and when I say dark I mean DARK!

I use a 19+20x1200 screen but I start to doubt it may be the root of the problem. nHancer.exe don't resolve. I feel quite comfident JMM will be the man for ameliorate this aspect.

I admit this is only about the 3D; 2D is normal. For the moment, I focuse mainly on the 2xF2. But then I am a bit confused with the different colors and their subtle differences.

To summarize, I consider you are a more or less favored .

Cheers, GP.

You can fix the dark screen with a free utility called Gamma Panel.  I'm using it myself now.

Basically, it sits on the task bar and you click on it and select a gamma profile.  You set the profiles up when you first run the program.  I made one called "Normal" and another called "High gamma".  I've got Normal set to 1.0 and High set to 1.3.  It's very quick and easy to switch between them, and doesn't seem to interfere with anything else.

Download links:

Enjoy.

Any ideas on how to get rid of my lovely plaid battlefields?

This is as close as I could come to reproducing your problem.  It looks like you're missing a base texture somewhere, or the texture has been overwritten by another one.

I'm sure you've tried everything, but let me go through a few ideas and see if it sparks any ideas.

First of all, what are your weather settings for the battle?  Do you get the same problem with Summer, Hot and Dry?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game?  Also, try a different folder than Program Files.  C:\Games\ for example, just to avoid admin account problems.  If you're actually missing a texture file, a total reinstall should fix it.

If you've edited or replaced any files in the game it may have messed up somewhere.  Does the same thing happen with a totally new install with no changes?

OK, now we're down to your graphics card.  How much video RAM do you have?  Is it integrated graphics like you would find on a laptop?  Those often give odd errors.

I've seen strange things in other games that act like my video RAM has gotten fragmented.  This is solved with a reboot, preferably with a total shutdown of the system first.

If none of this has any effect, the last resort is to update your video drivers.  I normally don't recommend this unless you've got a known problem with a specific video driver version.  If you do update the drivers, make sure to write down the old version and the new version so that if it solves the problem we'll have documentation about at least one driver version that doesn't work.

Good luck.

Hook, thanks for the suggestions but yes tried all weather and season settings. Still with the same result. (attached is snow pic)

Tried a new download and reinstall. And numerous restarts. Updated the drivers and messed around with graphics settings.

So guess it must be the card. It is integrated like a laptop but it’s a desktop.
It says 256MB for the graphics.
Guess I’m stuck there till JMM can work it out. Hopefully full game will be ok.

I did notice it is very dark in the distance in your pic. Something which I do not have happen.

GrosPaul, I feel somewhat fortunate now! Lol
At least I’m not only one having problems.

For me the graphics is too dark too, but changing the gamma makes it nice, would be great if you can change it ingame.

I requested it already and JMM said he might add it to the game.

I've attached my snow pic.  Something is still a bit off in yours, you still see the "plaid" pattern.

No need to redownload anything... if it would install then the download was good.  If a reinstall didn't fix it, then it's not a missing texture.

I'm guessing it's the graphics card as well.  Integrated graphics cause all manner of problems, including poor graphics performance.  Low frame rates.  Some games won't even run on them, or do not recommend using them.  Some integrated graphics cards share the computer's main memory.  Anything might happen.  The amount of video RAM should be ok.  I hope.

The good news is, since it's a desktop you can always add a graphics card.  It doesn't even have to be an exceptionally good one.  Cheap.  Used, even.  Someone who has upgraded their graphics to a newer card may have one laying around to sell cheap or give away.

My graphics card died once and I had to rely on the onboard graphics for a while. It was... different.  At least it was a backup system to allow me to research cards to see what I wanted.

Good luck.

Oh... the darkness in the background is probably because I'm looking farther away than you were.  It was even darker before I lightened it in Photoshop.  This is why some people need gamma adjustment. :)
