After the patch my game crashes back to the main menu when using F2, F3, F4 and F5 ? is this the same for everybody ?

What is the last patch you download before this version 03n0 (a) ?
Is the patch 03n0 ?
If yes and HW:LG ran fine, it is possible the last patch [03n0 (a)] was corrupted...
If not, more difficult to know if the 03n0 (a) was corrupted or if there is another problem.
I don't think you have to reinstall the initial version before installing the patch (if the game ran fine before)

No need the spyboard. No real information in this file for this bug.
Tomorrow, I am sending you a zip file with the old exe (patch 03n0)...
It is very curious there isn't feedback on this problem...

Game was running fine before this patch and i am pretty sure my game was up to date with all previous patches.
Bottom right of my main menu screen reads

The crash isn't in HistWar itself but probably in a library...
I don't have precise information on the reason of this crash.
Moreover, it seems no people gets this issue.
The differences between the previous version and this one are major.
- for XP, need to have the SP3 installed (but it's not your configuration)
- package MicroSoft supporting a new library (but I suppose it is installed on your system)
No modification on DirectX9c... but sometimes, for an unknown reason, it seems that it is necessary to re-install the package.
Question : when the battle starts, the first view is a Symbolic View if I am right.
So, could you display the 3D view after starting (F3) ?
On this view, can you use the 3D view F5 / F6 ?
Is the problem only on switching F2 -> F3/F4/F5 ?
If the problem is only on F2 -> Fx... Wait...
I'll try to generate a special version for you in order to identify the problem

When game starts its in symbolic view, the only screen i can then go to is F2, all other options crash to main menu (f3, f4, f5,)

Really very curious... because HW:LG starts in F4 (3D Symbolic view...)
Totally abnormal to begin with the 2D View...
We have to find the reason why the game begins like that.
Could you re-install the original version of HistWar : Les Grognards; just check it for confirming the game runs fine.
Rename the spyboard.txt to spyboard0.txt (for example)
After that, re-install the patch 03n (a) and check...
If you get the crash again, send me the 2 files (spyboard)...

Do you remember a long time ago you told me about "pcwizard".....do you see this (see picture) when using that ?.
JMM has said many, many times over the years that DirectX9c is needed, I do hope you have it, and the problem is something else, but if you don't have it, well, what can I say !!!.

No problem running LG until this latest patch so directx9 should not be a problem, JMM suggests installing dircetx9 again, i will do that if i can find out how or reinstall LG from scratch if my game key is made available.

My directX is fully up to date and i have installed the directx software from windows that allows you to also run earlier versions, in this case x9.
It has not helped so i will install LG from scratch if JMM can provide my game key.

Hello Dougie, the "key" is not really a file as such, it is a very long line of letters and numbers that you copy and paste into the box at the install stage. I assume you never kept a copy of it anywhere ?.

Right for the first buyers; the SN isn't in the account but we sent an email with the SN and the address to download the game ;)
Really now, I can't spend a lot of time to transfer the SN to the account... but you can send me an email if you lost it :-)

No need to worry about that. I was just wondering, cos in my case the info wasnt conform with the facts.
For now I got both versions installed and running. Furthermore I am pretty sure that I got the key on one of my HDs and/or in my email archives. I didnt mean to cause any hecticness amidst all the upcoming holy tasks.

Just to clear things up, a re-install of both HWLG and this latest patch has fixed my crashing issue and all is now running fine, thanks to JMM for his support.

I can partially confirm this also happens to me then I try to play the mods for Waterloo and the Peninsula war. The game loads fine, but as soon as I hit F3 it drops me back to the main menu and I can still hear the unit bands playing. The only difference is Ive had no trouble opening the modded OOB's.

and I add that all Peninsular War scenarios + Waterloo as well as all other scenarios .
when F3 is hit or middle mouse button is scrolled down to zoom to F3 map I return to main menu (version 2.n0)
Vista platform , dir x update 'not required for my system' is what Win update reports when I choose to run :
Windows6.0-KB971512-x86.msu (update for Windows Vista KB971512)
However by installing DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer all HistWar scenarios are playable
except for 3rd party scenario's like Peninsular War scenarios Waterloo . F3 or middle mouse button will kick me back to
main menu
