Austria has spent the year consolidating its position in Europe, having occupied cities in Italy and the German States. Apart from the set back in Italy ( Florence) the occupation was relatively bloodless.

March 1809
France and prussia at peace.
France Austria Allied
France and Russia at war, but cant get access to Russian territory.
GB allied to Russia and at war with France, but no attacks have occurred yet.

The Political situation has balanced once again, after and unprecedented attack by Russia initially against Turkey which was basically a land grab by Russia, in a hope to win VP without much of a fight 1805 to 1806.  Austria who also borders Turkey also pitched against Turkey to balance things out for herself, this has left Turkey being taken over. France in the meantime had attacked Prussia knowing that Russia was too busy to assist and as a result Prussia lost in the Zerbst Campaign against Napoleon, and ceded territory. France in 1808 to winter 1809 has taken key regional areas in Spain, and now ahead slightly in the dominance of Europe.
It seems there is no solid alliance block now committed to make there mark, time is running out.  Will there be one power to make a difference this is yet to be revealed.

December 1809:
Bulletin BY Nedfn
1809
Great Britain starts a Fall offensive against French forces in Italy.

After conquering all of the Barbary coast, all of Egypt, and many coastal Turkish cities, GB turns attention to Italy.  The campaign, which started in September, has met with great success. Palermo, Naples, Rome and Marseilles have been captured and strongly garrisoned. General Lefebvre and his entire corps of Italians were annihilated at the Straits of Messina.  The last of the French fleet in the Med was destroyed near Rome.

There apparently will be no coalition against France as both Austria and Prussia have gone to war against Russia. Russia was in the process of bringing forces to the Prussian/French border to join Austria in a war against France. The declarations of war caught Russia by surprise. GB was also forced into DOW’s against Prussia and Austria. Prussia offered an immediate peace which was accepted.

Due to the imbalance created by Russia invading Turkey and the political dominance of that profound move, Prussia, Austria have decided to DOW on Russia. France has also moved to push Russia out of the race by attacking also.

GB Jan 1810-July 1810
Bulletin from Nedfn

Following GB success in Southern France and Italy in late 1809, France and Austria concentrated two armies to recapture lost territory in Italy. In March British forces were forced from Rome in a sharp battle which resulted in significant casualties(mostly to France). The GB  corps  in that battle was moved by sea to Naples where Wellington was assembling an army. The French army arrived at Naples before Wellington was ready so Wellington made a token defense in a HistWar battle that was aided by weather and withdrew after one day of fighting(casualties were minimal on both sides). Wellington considered counterattacking the French army with his completely assembled army providing some advantage but decided that the presence of an Austrian army nearby threatened the British army. Instead of attacking Wellington’s entire army was evacuated by sea.

In Southern France, British occupied Marseilles was sharply attacked by a French force resulting in casualties mainly to the French force. As France was assembling more forces in the area GB evacuated Marseilles by sea.
,
In other areas GB captured Barcelona from France, Taranto and Salonika from Austria. Salonika was later abandoned under almost the exact circumstances as Marseilles.

At the same time Wellington was evacuating Naples, GB was assembling another army under Beresford in Messina. This army was to defend the straits so that France could not retake Palermo while leaving Wellington free to go anywhere.

In June Wellington’s entire army raided Southern France, Marseilles was taken by amphibious assault and other forces were landed to protect flanks and threaten the cities of Montpellier and Perpignan. In July France counterattacked these forces with significant losses hut the attacks had no effect. France also moved nearly the entire French army in Italy into the area around Toulon so they would be ready to attack Welling ton in force.

Just North of Marseilles Wellington’s forces attacked and annihilated  the French 10th corps with General Lannes and a heavy cavalry regiment. The city of Montpellierwas also captured. Following these successes Wellington’s army was withdrawn by sea.

Meanwhile in Italy Rome was left undefended and was quickly occupied by a British corps transported by sea. Another British force was landed at Naples to begin a siege of the garrison.

Further South the Austrian army was approaching Messina until  Beresford’s army was detected. Unfortunately the army HQ was following the main army alone and was undefended. The HQ was along with supply trains and General Mack were destroyed by a cavalry raid from Beresford’s army. At the same time Beresford advanced his entire army to attack the Austrian army. The battle is in progress using HistWar.

Following the winter of 1809 - 1810 Austria, after diplomatic discussions with Prussia, loaned two armies to the Prussian Emperor to assist in improving Prussia's strategic position in Europe by assisting in its war against Russia.
Prussia's position was especially weak following its defeat at the hands of France earlier.

At this time Europe found France, Austria and Prussia at war against Russia and Great Britain, although Prussia and GB were still at peace.

To assist the northern offensive another Austrian Army attacked into southern Russia eventually capturing the city of Odessa against light resistance.

A fourth Austrian Army assisted the British forces in leaving the Balkans through Salonika, following  the British Forces brief occupation there.

Battle of Rogiliano:
News reached Major General Reuss-Plauen that Lt General Mack had been killed in a cowardly attack by British Cavalry which ruthlessly shot Mack on site. This caused disorganization in the Austrian Chain of Command which took, The before mentioned Major General Reuss-Plauen, being entirely strung out on the march decided to concentrate his forces before any attempt at attacking British Forces, which took Major General Reuss-Plauen, nearly 10 hours to do so, at last light, Major General Reuss-Plauen decided to withdraw under the cover of darkness and back onto Austrian LOC and possibly to reorganize, The General was grateful that it took so long for the British to put up an effective force to attack, and only at the end of the day. Fortunatley we did not need to make a fight of it, under our current situation, things could of got out of hand.
