Who ever plays Austria, you will have to move troops north of the river, before you start as some Austrian Forces can start on the south side of the river

Yeah good game mate really enjoyed it, however the river thing was bit of a bug because i had deployed all my men north of the river (all hundy odd thousand in about a square mile) and gradually 10000 merry men and 2 batts had transported back to other side in the first 20 mins of play, last and worst of all my HQ zapped over to the other side, although i was soundly beaten and not sure if those extra men would of made a diff well played lancier, Ill upload the replay if you guys want just not sure where its kept is it the save file? Apologies to Austrian Commander.

Hey fellers yeah battle was really fun big map lots of men, French arty was outstanding pretty much stumped any move i had, and yeah whoever's playing Austria needs ta give whats left of the grenadiers an extra ration of rum, if they had not held town as long as they did lancier could of rolled up my disorganized lines very easily, just a couple of things, i think if gonna have rivers on maps they should have some form of crossing even if not intended to be used, also not sure if lancier had same prob but my  start point was tiny (partially because the river cut it in half) but to squeeze hundy thousand into the area was major issue made initial planing very hard  as first 15 mins of play was untangling corps, but yeah fairly minor points, love the way these battles got back storys and futures with your campaign system makes 5 hour games very enjoyable, yeah cheers lancier you held in there too mate so more than happy to do it again with ya and this campaign, (hope mack doesnt get court martial-ed).

Guys for your interest the casualties will work out this way.

The difference between France start of 128206 reduced to the new potential figure 93604 end of battle is 27% Casualties
And Austria is 118926 reduce to the new potential figure of 47044 is only 47%

France Start of 181 CEH Less 27% that’s down to 132 CEH
Austria Start of 185 CEH Less 47% that’s down to 98 CEH

The "new potential" number is recovery of routed, injured, desertion of units and the end of the battle, and more are recovered by troops that have not yet left the field of battle.
As Messena got a strategic victory therefore controlling the battlefield makes a differance in the final figures.
Titre: Re : Readymade new battles to fight here for players
Posté par: gazfun le 25 novembre 2013, 10:18:49 am
sorry trying to understand tho i know new potential is used but:

from end game screens it shows France goes from 128206 to 93604 (initial to new potential) and Austria goes from 118926 to 63916 (initial to new potential)  not 47044 (final strength) ? so we take into account the final strength of Austria instead of new potential cause Messena got a strategic victory ?
My mistake we take Austria to the New Potential as well to 63916 which 47%  not reduced to 47044 (My error which would be more casualties)
Losses are translated to CEH from at start

Update of Test Campaign
As the Italian States are also at war with Austria, they moved into Mantua, before Messena was able to move in.
As seen here Messena has moved up to Venice now.

gazfun after we get results from HWN how we reflect final CEHs to ATG? modify some game files?
The percentage of casulaties from the New potential from HWN as you know from our HWLG battle of Mantua just resently.

All the ATG Values are translated as CEH. We add Infantry Artillery, and Cavalry Guard Points from each corps to the total.  After a battle the results from the HWN battle as described are deducted from the ATG Army, as casualties and transferred to a new Corps called a "Dead Corps or Casualty Corps named after the battle. This works in the interim for now.
I am trying to find the code in the ATG engine to be able to remove these casualties from the game by making an "Event Card" which will do so

An event card has been coded and made as part of the Game engine now, which will also be messaged to other players that this has been done.

30km Google Campaign map defined as contact area, and to be modified by Map editor. To be posted soon!

Hello gazfun,
a long time ago I had worked out the map (I'm using yours as an example) this way with a river and
omitting of course the Po given the limitations of the game engine and editor (I pleaded my case to JMM
to have one smaller river as a branch coming out of a larger river, or stand alone like Alpone ect)

Making streams and a few together side by side can have a reducing effect, on movement, thats the only way we got around that

- marshy ground to the south following the historical narrative
- one wood bridge at Goito and one across (A22) to Bagnolo S Vito the rest  stone.
- 3 castles /forts  (google sketchup has a model and can be seen on google earth)
the semicircle around Mantua must be big because the area has to hold 4 buildings castles and city.
JMM to busy then to workout the new building for Histwar and told me that HW not a siege engine (no siege logarithm  needed  bombardment dislodges defenders)
oob  Enrico Acerbi (with some artistic license)

For the French side the attack would come from Pradelle , w Austria defending
For the Austrians  the attack would come from Borgoforte  the bridge over the Po( in HW 1 open fields no sec river) in stages of reinforcements to simulate river crossing.

I scrapped the project because of not enough knowledge base to build the new buildings
myself in HistWar, and busy with work not too much time for HW.

Thanks Lancier for fighting the battle.

A tough battle fighting against a force nearly 3 time your number and you you did magnifcently.

I guess we all get into a battle we don't want to fight.

Although it took French forces a good day to come into contact, properly.
It that situation all anyone can do is play for time in a delaying action, some can do it better than others but its a good player who can do this

Background to the battle:
After the Prussian retreat from Magdeburg and casualties as a result, the Army of Hohenlohe as moved on the East side of the Danube to link up with elements of Brunswick's Army which has joined as reinforcements,  this has put the Prussian at a better disposition than Magdeburg which seemed to be surprised by Napoleons attack.  The Brunswick's Army  are somewhat strung out due to there long and hurried mach to assist Hohenlohe.  Napoleon seeing this is hoping to catch them before they can concentrate in the Operational Map Area of Zerbst.

Battle Of Zerbst (Prussian perspective)

The day of the battle opened with the Prussian army under (Hohenlohe) Strung out on the march with regiments arriving at half hourly intervals. This being due to the withdrawal from the previous battle and reinforcements arriving on the field.

Initially the army held its ground avoiding contact till more of the troops arrived.
The battle started early afternoon with a small number of regiments gallantly defended themselves against the French onslaught. However the French superiority in numbers soon took their toll
against the Prussian defenders. The Prussian II ( von Kalkreuth) and III Corps ( Bulow) being all but annihilated, however their sacrifice was not in vain, a counter attack by the I Corps (Blucher) supported by the IV Corps (Thielmann) being initially successful against the French (Dutch Corps) the attack only being defeated by the LOC being blocked by the French. The V Corps ( Yorck) held in reserve covered the withdrawal of the remnants of the Prussian Army till night fell and the army successfully disengaged.

Lessons to be learned for CiC (Prussia)

When withdrawing on the ATG map, do not withdrawal to a hex beside the pursuing enemy forces. The river did not provide an obstacle, although it may delay the enemy entering the battlefield in full strength.(river crossings/assaults in HWLG, due to game map making restrictions are not possible, as they( the rivers) cannot be represented geographically, correctly on the map).
Perhaps would have been better to withdrawal to a hex/hexes further away, this would have forced the Enemy player to expend more AP(Action Points) before renewing the battle.

Battle in Zerbst Operational
French perspective
After the Prussian hasty withdrawal from Magdeburg, Napoleon noticed that Hohlenhoe withdrew on the east side of the Danube River, which was very close to the French position on the west side of the river.
Napoleon decided not to follow up into Magdeburg and observed the Prussian retreat.  Seeing  them strung out so much and also with stragglers and  Reinforcements from Brunswick in Berlin Saw an opportunity to strike hard where the enemy where at their weakest.  The battle in the Zerbst Area was and extension of that strategy which worked for France. With Overwhelming results
