Titre: Instant march to orders
Posté par: [NBC]Friant le 10 décembre 2011, 15:47:18 pm
A topic on HWGC, a club for Histwar enthusiasts, came up today about the advantages and disadvantages of using the march to orders/micro managing, this is what i posted.

The biggest disadvantage with micro managing is that should your army get in to trouble, i.e. loosing an LOP for instance, could have a radical effect on the rest of your army by having an overwhelming number of units detached (it is for you to find out what it is, i THINK i know). Although as this post has gone on its seems that micro managing could be misconstrued as cheating as you do not suffer from the same time penalty as someone using delayed orders. With this game desperately seeking to be a Napoleonic game based on historical accuracy why are we in a situation where it is necessary to ‘cheat’ the system. No disrespects to anyone here but I personally will not be playing any games that are not set to orders delayed, my personal preference, but ask yourselves this, is an instant march to order really in keeping with what this game is about, we all use it i know, but to manage your whole army like this to get the initiative in a battle is a shame. Did any of the Napoleonic commanders have the luxury of instant orders? The best thing here would in my opinion be to put delays on the instant orders, if you want orders carried out quickly, move your CiC closer to the corps/corps commander.
This is why we have the doctrine editor, so you as a commander don’t have to individually order your units to do ANYTHING, that's what the corps commander is for.
So to the post creator the real ‘advantage’ to using it is instant orders, disadvantages will become clear if you should be caught out!

’I wonder, should we all set the options to NO order delays so that no one can gain from the orders being delayed advantage’

So my answer to this is NO, I will be playing with orders delayed (how it was and how it is meant to be) and will choose my games accordingly.

The reason for my post is to ask could you incorporate realistic delays on instant movement orders? There seems to be questions arising to give the user of individual movement orders an unfair advantage?

Fantastic game JMM a real pleasure to play!!! aka [NBC]Friant. Sorry it is in english.

I think when we will have Division's and brigade's AI, we will don't need individual orders.

Glen, the March or Scout order should never be used to manipulate and cheat the Game.  I do however have to disagree with it being subject to an Order Delay.  Order Delay is an Order given by the CinC to a Corp which takes time to get there and the Corp Commander then needs to communicate these orders to Division etc..  March or Scout Orders are probably given by Division/Brigade Commander directly to a Regimental Commander and would have been actioned quite quickly.

Having re-evaluated the situation, I agree AJ, I too like it as it is, and no doubt you have read the posts of how and why this topic arose. Don't fix what isn't broken! Thankyou. Friant.

General Friant exhibits his usual intelligence and common sense.  A good example of "Instant Regimental" orders would be the Counter Charge of the Lancers against the Scotts Greys at Waterloo, a 50 minute "Order Delay" just didn't happen.  However I understand that the Imperial Guard took nearly 50 mins to March from the time  the Emperor dispatched the "Attack Order"

delayed orders are great but visibility with delay really working good for enjoy?

also for AI entities,
what happens if corp AI is on,unit is "attached" to its corp but its AI is closed?
... also what if corp AI is off but units AI is on ?
... also what happens if both corp AI and unit AI are off ? after some time they get on automatically
