Titre: Historical Deployments of Battles Part #1: Austerlitz (with pics)
Posté par: Count von Csollich le 18 juillet 2011, 00:08:18 am
well - as we started a little screenshot-series in the "infantry" thread already I thought I'd give you guys an update on how things develop with the historical deployments...

first to be discussed here: AUSTERLITZ (what else :) )

I am posting these screenshots to:
1) give you guys an idea on what awaits you in the next release (among many other, much more important things of course :D)
2) ask for critism on the deployments (I tried to get them as close as possible, but you never know)
3) answer any questions that might come up with these deployments

here is the map and the overview - I didn't comment on it, but I will post a screenshot on the map tomorrow or so (when I find time to edit the screenshot)

first off - it might be that I (or someone I will work with on this project) make a new map for this battle - a larger one so that we can be more precise!

now here comes the funny part - after having made the effort of taking all these screenshots, writing the text, AND deploying the units (which took me quite some time) - I just found out that I made a fundamental mistake in my deployment....

here comes the interesting question, which I would like you to answer for me - what did I do wrong? - where is the big mistake on this map? - it isn't difficult, it's rather obvious if one has played the map several times... - but still...

Hello Count
I saw your Austerlitz (map F2) ,but are not to much in advance the french in the north ?
No, perhaps you are right,if village under is Blasowitz.
It is a well work finally  to define starting deployment of Austerlitz and OOB ,between a book and other there are always differences.
Good work.

the village south of Lannes' Corps is actually Blasiowitz - so these deployments are quite ok I think (as ok as you can have it with this size of the map) - however there is a BIG MISTAKE somewhere else!

A very small mistake,
If I read well, you put Mameluks, Chasseurs and Guard lancers together  (second pic ).
I believe Guard Lancers doesn't exist by the time of Austerlitz....
This doesn't decrease the value of your work, please continue the good job !

I though that you will use the scale 1/1 to show the historical deployement of Austerlitz.

it is 1:1  - but with so many troops on such a small space... you can't make it out quite - because I decided to go for the wide angle!
I will post some close ups soon enough!

WELL DONE!

indeed  - when I made the deployments I mistook Sokolnitz Castle (as I only worked on the 2D map) for Tellnitz, didn't check - and thus not only deployed the French wrongly - but also Kienmayr's Avant Garde - it's too far north - too close to Dokthurov (who is also too far north)

you're quite right - this mistake only occurred as I took the OOB that comes with the game - with the final release it will have a new map (bigger, to get more detail) and a new OOB, as some units are missing!

I have just had a look at the satellite maps created by Alfiere and Jacquinot - I will post a historical deployment on this map tonight or tomorrow - and will let you choose which one we'll use for the release!

furthermore I will try to use a different OOB this time let's see!

Ok let's see! We play our scenario with Alfiere in PBEM and get historical result on this map!

Very well, Count.

Good work.

the problem I see with you satellite map is that almost the entire battlefield of the V Corps - with Santon to the north is no longer on the map - therefore it will be difficult to deploy Bagration  historically!....

as requested a few more screenies of the 1:1 at Austerlitz

now all units are at their historically accurate positions (or close) but not all of them are deployed in the correct formation, as a line formation simply looks  better than a column :)

I look at this pictures and i think we need to diminish trees, grass, constructions etc, right?

that unfortunately is something I cannot influence - maybe JMM will look at it - I haven't asked him....

The present beta test version isn't finished.. For example, the trees/building/grass scale isn't right.
I am working on this part  ;)
