You and every general of the period.  The problem is, the men will stop to fire on their own, without orders, and it's hard to get them started again.  Even though it was doctrine at the time, it didn't seem to happen that often.  Also, there were very few bayonet wounds recorded, because one side would break off before contact.

That being said, you will see charges if you watch for a while.

Yep, and I'd bet most bayonet wounds are in the back or received by prone soldiers!!  Nicely expressed answer, Hook.

No, didn't Suvarov say it in a more blunt way?! :   "The bullet is a stupid bitch!  The bayonet's a good lad!"

There are three formations in the game:

a) line : just firing,
b) column of division: firing before charging,
c) column of platoon: only charging.

For order to Corps, take a look at the page 29 of the "Manual of Operation"

Right... No sure if there is a translation for the book "Etudes sur le combat" de Ardant du Picq; this author wrote about the the moral and psychological aspects of battle; very interesting.

When my brigade attack in column of division i saw many times that battalions run fast to the enemy after that they stop and open fire after that enemy retreat or my brigade retreat, but no melee action :(

If im right i must attack only in platoon columns?

Why... because one of regiment runs away before the melee...
For getting a melee, each unit must have an high moral! the melee was very rare at this epoc.

You can try with the tutorial.. just send an Infantry unit vs another one... two units in column of platoon.

Im take your advaice and send in tutorial two infantry units vs anoter one, and see some funny action, two first battalions of brigade fight in melee and second two battalions shoot in they back, it was very funny

Yes and i send Napoleons old guard vs Russian tsar guard, and old guard allways win the melee, i think its unfair. What parameter regiment must have to win melee action?

There is a very good translation, and it's one of the better books on the period that I've read.  It's included in "Roots of Strategy Book 2" from Stackpole books.  This book also has Clausewitz "Principles of War" and Jomini "Art of War", so it's definitely worth getting.

Napoleons old guard vs Russian tsar guard I have to verify but the parameters for this two type on units are identical
A lot of paramaters are used for calculation.. one of them is the distances between the unit and CinC, Marshalls, other units...
So, maybe you test this melee near French Side?
Take a look at the user's guide, page 95...

Is "column of company" and "column of platoon" the same? I don't see column of platoon in the game, only column of company

Companies are an administrative organization, platoons are a tactical organization. Platoons are formed with an equal number of men, companies not necessarely. So the right words for manoeuver is 'column by platoon' but you can use 'by company' as well.
