Titre: Can't connect in MP even with port forwarding done and zonealarm off!
Posté par: HarryInk le 02 août 2010, 13:53:46 pm
Just tried several connects with cavalier after we both had installed v.200c

First time I popped up on his screen briefly but at my end the connection failed ... with another error message (not the 1:c).

Mostly we got  'connection failed' error 1:C

What does this mean?  any suggestions?

I have bought the PF Config program and have got the 21205 port opened.  I have advised zonealarm to allow LG.exe through (indeed I turned it off as well but without any success with LG...)

We can try a test on this evening (French time, 9h00 pm)... Is it possible? You'll the host.

Harry did you open UDP 6073?

Do not forget to open both 21205 ports(UDP and TCP).

Count, when using PFConfig from Portforward.com, you only have to open 21205 tcp and udp. The program does the rest.

Okay.  I've returned to LG in order to link up my two computers.  Having been frustrated at the amount of fiddling at the start of August and lack of success, I have hardly played LG since.  Happily 'Courtier' was able to get a multiplayer game working linked my 'A' computer (after he got a new router) so I have finally seen the possibilities.  Also my 'B' computer has just been upgraded from Vista.

My first attempt to link them up has failed, so I ask for your advice.

Here are the specs

Computer A
HP Pavilion running
XP Pro SP3 on
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
T9400 2.53 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
with Zonealarm anti-virus protection.

Computer B
Lenovo R61 running WIN7
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo
@1.80 Ghz
 Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Both computers run LG independently quite OK.

Computer A: After initial frustrations with the port forwarding stuff and, I bought the Portforward.com software and had it sort out the forward issues with TCP/UDP 21205.  I have added all the exceptions for LG in Zonealarm so that it should not interfere.

On Computer B I have just performed a new install.  I don't want to have to buy the PF software overagain.  So, I have visited the Windows Firewall and added 'rules' for inward AND outward bound traffic to open for Les Grogs .exe; TCP 21205 and UDP 21205 and UDP 6073 (given the advice above).

So, I have the computers side by side on my desk, both connected to the internet via my router.  I have tested each as host and client, using the IP from 'whatsmyip.org'.  Each test has returned an "Connection Attempt Fail: 1C' result.

What don't I know to do? or what haven't I done?  What does the '1C' error indicate?  How can I move forward?

Hi Harry,

1C means the hosts doesn't accept the connexion
Question : why? I never saw that...
Could you reboot the Host... if no result, maybe reboot the two PCs?

Waiting for news

Harry, do you have a second firewall, as part of a anti virus package ?.

If yes, you need to allow full internet access though that as well for HW, plus open the ports on it.

It might also be worth turning OFF your windows firewall and only using your AV one, as I have done for years without any problems.  I have been told by many people the windows firewall is, well, not very good !....I think someone else had a problem like this with windows firewall not allowing connection, when they turned it off and used the AV firewall instead, all was good. I believe it is recommened to NOT use two firewalls, but I could be wrong about that.

If your windows firewall is the only one on your machine, then please dis-regard this post.

okay.  Restarted.  Same problem:  error 1C.

So, I'll try turning off BOTH computers' Windows firewall (comp' A already had its one off).  Both 'external' firewalls are set to allow HW through...

Hmm..well, windows firewalls are off but neither computer will accept the other's attempt to connect.  Could it be my router perhaps, or does the 1C error mean that I'm reaching the other computer but it won't accept the connection?

Theoretically, 1C means the host receives the request but it doesn't accept the connection:
- No free for incoming connection
- connection attempt failed
- already connected
- connection banned...
These messages are sent from Raknet manager (host)  to the "Joiner"
No idea why...

Could you try to use Hamachi or other system to build your network

JMM

PS : I use the 2 methods: directly on the LAN (address IP like 192.168.x.x) or through an external serveur to simulate a real MP game (latencies).... and I don't remember get this kind of error.

lol   dopey bugger.  Well, the windows are off and the AVs are on.  We'll leave it at that as it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Looks like I'll have to learn how to connect via Hamachi.  It's 1.35AM here, so I think that will have to happen another day.   I'll be at another house with internet in a couple of days.  I'll try connecting up there too and see if the router is the difference.

I FALL OVER BACKWARDS WITH JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the way out, I click on the topic below mind about LANing and read JMM's reply:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For LAN game, I never open a port.
Just the firewall asked me if I accepted the communication between the PCs.
Answer "Yes" to begin the game.. no more

Attention : the IP address is internal address, generally 192.168.x.x
You can get it with the command ipconfig in a Dos Window

I try 192.168.1.3 and, as we say in Australia, 'Bob's your uncle!!', I am connected!!!!!  Fuggin amazing.

Even more progress.  I've just linked up the laptops via a D-Link switch.  Interestingly the WIN7 'B' computer hosted successfully, while 'A' couldn't: but that could still be an issue of me and IPs lack-of-prowess.

HOWEVER, my winners-are-grinners news is that this means I have learned how to link computers and should soon get to that happy place I've been dreaming off with LG of a tabletop of 4+ LANed computers, 4+ players, drinks and nibbles, and plenty of chatter while the computers do all that hard dice rolling, measuring, minor tactical fiddles and rules-lawyering.

Thanks to all contributors to this thread for helping out. :D
