Had to do this: a map of my hometown (15km).
Some design notes:
The main problem when planning the map layout was that there were 2 unfordable rivers on the battlefield: the large main river Elbe and the tributary Weisseritz which was swollen after heavy rainfalls. The editor allows only one river. I decided to include Weisseritz because it was of great importance for the outcome of the battle. Weisseritz separated the allied left wing from the rest of Schwarzenberg's army. After seizing the bridges over the river Murat was able to destroy the allied wing which could not be reinforced. River Elbe was not as important because all fighting took place on its southern bank.
Therefore my map shows only this left bank and Elbe appears as some lakes on the northern edge.
BTW, my house is at the hamlet of Lobtau in the northwestern part of the map. Tell your artillery men they should spare it.
UPDATE:
After the encouragement of my friends from the Peninsular War mod group I got used to create satellite maps.
You can download the new version from the official file depot.

Have fun!

Very Good map !
I would also like to see a way to add newer features to the map making
Of course I am aware that priority must take place to more important issues, so this is just a wish list.
Size down rivers or introduce tributary branch off a river (small wooden bridges only for these)
Irrigation canals
Marsh draw tool in my opinion should start small say : 50 x 50 meters and add it were its needed (like trees draw tool)
marsh is also found along river banks (this cannot be added presently)
Sunken roads
Size down farms as it is in the editor right now a farm is as big as a village.
Trees thickness versus size . Now draw program creates thickets rather then tall and wide pines.
Grass wild grasses tall as well as corn stalks.
Rocky ground
Buildings with floors and windows you can shoot out of (see Combat Mission ) Historical Period buildings
Elevation tool (2D) with numerical gradient
Cheers

Hi orendel,
I'm very happy that you could do again the map of Dresden with satellite elevations.
I'm sure you've had the pleasure to create and admire the real landscape near the hamlet Lobtau where you live.
I believe the next step should be doing the complete scenario ?
:D

First of all I have to thank my fellows from the Peninsular war mod group who encouraged me to start doing satellite elevation maps.
I'd love to create the scenario - when the Prussians will come.

Great work, Alexander, very impressive!!! :)
You've mentioned us and we thank you; but you've done this superb work alone, then the glory is only yours!
Conratulations!

My thanks as well - an excellent map. Now if only we had the Prussians ;)
