We don't know why and how JMM and BF cancelled the agreemnt.
Even if there was a clash, people of the BF forum are not guilty of this clash.
I think erasing the forum in a flash, without any warning, is disrepectful for the people who spend time posting and talking about the game.

Wild speculation given the late cancelling by --------- and the near instant release by JMM about hard dates that are quite soon:
---------, the Publishers, might have been making demands that were slowing down release. One thing that *might* have been the rubbing point would be language. --------- would have insisted that everything be done with an English language primacy so while JMM may have a manual done in French, the publisher might have been rejecting it for translation reasons.
Again, it is just wild speculation.

Well, none of the dates JM have released so far were hard dates, they have all slipped.
My guess is BF cancelled because hes taking too long, too many delays. They advertised release in Q3, now hes talking about release at years end. And I'd say that isnt a hard date either, purely speculative. I don't think he knows when he will be done, and should probably hire some help to finish the production.

My speculation is the euro/dollar exchange rate killed ---------'s profit-sharing, conditions now not being the same as they were a year ago. Discussions were held, disagreement arose, tempers flared... very much in the U.S./France traditional love/hate relationship! Am I guessing right?
And BF is in a huff now, shutting down the forum and all that. That's a no-no IMHO.
Well, I guess we'll have to do without a boxed verion.

Was quite worried and upset when I tried to enter BF forum as result of a notice of posting. Hence my query (s1 above).
As it looks likely that JMM is going it alone. I wish him every financial success.
No doubt we will be kept informed of ordering procedure etc :D

Well, i think publishing is not that difficult, take the example of the superb game "Mount and Blade" it was released by the developers then (in a second moment) came paradox, but every customer can now buy it from paradox or directly from the developers.

how risky is this for JMM from a financial standpoint? my initial reaction is he must have a lot of faith in his game to sell by word of mouth because self publishing, i would guess, means you can't reach nearly as large an audience as when you go with an established publisher? but then again i don't really know what a publisher does anyway so if someone wanted to explain that to me that would be nice :)
also i agree it was in bad form to just erase the forum like that...

But before paradox, how did they managed to sell their game by themseves ?
Only by downloading, or was it possible to order the developpers à dvd from them ?

Downloading, i bought that way. And answering to dmcheatw, this game inspire you faith, this is an interesting project a wonderful experience to be in. It is something new in the world of tactical gaming for napoleonic period :)

Im inclined to aqree that --------- out of respect for there customers should of had a grace period on the forum of somekind

In any case I sent a private message to Moon, the administrator of the --------- forum, concerning the specifics of the issue. This was his exact reply:
We cannot share this type of information due to confidentiality clauses in the contract. Our reason for cancelling the product has been stated however: it has been cancelled due to repeated delays. More details are not publicly available.

Amazing, I would like another publisher to take up LG, because it has now got a lot of backing around the internet. It would be great if a new publisher sold it in normal retailers (in-store). Well, we must think to the future of Histwar, BF is now a thing of the past.

The only problems that I see right now for JMM are the marketing and promotional aspects: as a professional marketing&comms expert, I can help you (for free, obviously) in finding cheap ways to promote HLG if you want. The first thing is to make aware all the people that were following the game that it has not been cancelled (how the BF forum says) but that now this is the official forum. I'll start with posting the news in every strategy newsgroup and forum that I know.
As other suggested, I would try to contact Matrix or Slitherine, maybe they are willing to distribute the game - but the release dates posted in the "News" thread MUST be certain.
I'm sure that the LG community will help JMM in every possible way to help him overcome what has certainly been an hard hit.

I'm so happy to see that the game is still going to be published. I'll gladly pay 100 Euro's for my copy to see that happen.
I hope indeed that some publisher sees how unique this game is and picks it up.

That's why Collector's editions exist. In this case, JMM could release a digital "Supporter" edition, with some simple plus (soundtrack, wallpapers) in order to give us a way to support him.

I would pay 60. and more if the game is good. Perhaps JMM will get something more when the Brits are released.! My pet method is every JMM birthday I send a monetary present basd on how many hours I have played that year. BF would have made a small fortune from me on that additional method or getting income.
Even not playing much I am sure I am good to send them 15-30 dollars a year at 10c per hour.

Utterly this game is the last hope for serious gamers to find a good napoleonic wargame without using a mod.
We are all ready to support it, and tell it all we know if the DEMO is out.
If any other help is needed, we just need to know it and then we will see if we have some profs in here to help out.
So lets all do our best.

We should do a lot of publicity on many forums for the success of this game.

But after the launch I think. Then there are the re-enactment societies, figure gamers, and possibly schools. And if we are all dilgent in giving a copy to nephews and grandchildren ..... : )
As organised minds we should be able to liaise properly with media and boards, and also within existing fans to maximise enjoyment. If JMM is going to go to a numbered system for the games that could be an aid to organisation. Why not have a country cttee who are advised , if agreed by the purchaser, of the purchasers contact details [telephone number?/e-mail address?] so they can organise informal meets or whatever. Of course this will not work in the Uk as we will not be properly introduced but elsewhere ....

Just joined here and can I say I'm very angry the way the LG message board at --------- was closed down. What a way to treat players and future customers of their games.

When I came to BF to do my dayly check my heart missed a bump and my first thought was that all the guys were right that this is vaporware. But Im glad that theyre are profen wrong. Keep it up JMM. I can asure you that I will buy HWLG and that I will do whatever I can to promote it in others forums.

Well nearly thought it was April 1st when i logged into the BF forum, luckily i had this site on favourites :)

Also will we like on the BF forum notes be able to use 1 copy on 2 pc's at the same time or will we require 2 copies ?

Long time lurker here, on and off, and lately on the --------- forum. :roll:
I am truly hoping the best of success to JMM and hoping to get this game ASAP. I will also try to support it. I am a frequent poster in the Ageod forum, in which I already recently mentioned LG's imminent release, and it will be mentioned again, rest assured.
Let me also mention that Ageod is a fine French company, developer of great strategy games and lately also they set up a web shop - maybe it could be a way to get the game out there... Impulse and Gamersgate are obvious alternatives, of course.

Hello, I have just worked out how to log onto the Histwar site! Was a bit dumbfounded to have our forum closed down so quickly on ---------... they seem very upset? This might work out better though with all the French/Italian and English speaking fans of the game all on one site... fingers crossed. Or perhaps we will all fall out and end up going to war. (even better!) ;)
I Must admit I have seen so many delays to this game that I was beginign to lose hope but there does appear to be several concrete dates now and I am becoming very hopeful once again...
I suppose we will really see on the 11th when the game manual should be available for our perusel!
The 11th of foot is also my old regiment by the way. It also fought at Salamanca. Anyone tell me what it was called? A bonus for the name it was given on that campaign? And teachers pet for anyone who knows what its calld now? :idea:
