After several years of development, it is time to fully unveil HistWar: Les Grognards. It is not without emotion that we move on to the first step of the final phase: the beginning of pre-sale!

The title of “Grenadier HistWar” will be assigned to those who will buy the game during the pre sale period (you have to be a registered user on our dedicated forum to get the title). This title will give you access to a restricted forum.
The duration of this phase is without doubt limited, since we plan to make “HistWar: Les Grognards” available around Christmas.
The boxed versions (the collector edition “Napoleon” and the “Grognard” edition) will be delivered in January 2010.
However, the 3 versions (1 online + 2 boxes) will be downloadable at the date of release of the Game; an email will be sent specifying a serial number.
The LAN game requires one license for 2 computers.

And also, if you select "Digital Download" as your version, the website gives me error and won't let me leave the "shipping" screen, because it can't deliver to my address in the USA (even though I only want to download it).

I'm now the very happy (pre-)owner of a Napoleon Edition. Looking forward to my cartridge box arriving in the New Year. I can also see myself buying an extra download copy early in 2010, soon as getting a few people together for LAN games. :D

Make that 79.89. European tax wasn't included and is required. Still a good deal. Shipping was 5.00 Euro for the cheaper version.

I've taken the plunge and ordered the download - I have never pre-ordered a game before but like so many here, I want to give every encouragement to JMM.

I would have gotten my order in earlier but I called my bank to find out what they do with a charge in Euros. They recorded the company and expected amount in my account so the bank would know the charge was legitimate. Since the charge is small it would have gone through anyway. Service charges for the exchange should be about 3% of the total.

What is the "leather USB key" for? If it's copy protection I would have expected it to be in every package - or at least a cheaper version of it for the cheaper packages.
The price of the Napoleon Box is pretty high for a game - would probably make it one of the top 3 most expensive games I've ever bought. Given the issues seen in the demo I don't think I could realistically pay that much money for the game. Will probably just get the digital download.

Yes, it's a bit expensive. But considering that the usual price I pay for a PS3 game for my kids here in Portugal is 69.99 euros... :roll:

Have followed the development of this game through the forums for a while now and appealt to me as the most interesting project I have come across. I am full of enthusiasm for the game and wish JMM well in his endeavors.
I will be purchasing the game in pre order over the next day or so, if only to support the game developers.
Having played the demo several times I must say that at the higher command level the game really gives the feel of managing a Napoleonic battle. Well obviously I never managed a real Napoleonic battle ;) but have years of wargaming under my belt and consider myself very well read in the period.
The downside is the silly action of individual units - squadrons, battalions and regiments on the 3D battle field view. During the demo I have seen most of the unusual events that have been reported on this forum and more. In my last game I saw two battalions of guard infantry literally walking through to the middle of a Russian regimental formation and exchanging fire with another Russian unit a little further away.
I have read the caveats regarding the demo and how things will be different in the launched game. I really hope this will be the case. If not this game really is going to get a slating from both games reviewers and purchasers. The majority of who want to see battles unfold in the 3D view in a consistent and realistic manner.
There is a great deal of enthusiasm and support within this community. I can only suggest to JMM that he take advantage of this last opportunity and releases the current version of the game to the pre order community for the purpose of further testing and feedback prior to a enhanced release of the game to an unforgiving and unsympathetic general public.

Apparently, JMM has to pay the tax no matter who the game is sold to. So... he collects from us.

Could anybody tell me when the two boxed versions of the game will start shipping? I will be moving another country in January/February. I doubt the shipment will be in time to still make it to my old address and I don't have a new address yet before the digital download opens. I would like to order a boxed version but I'm tempted to choose the download only.

My advice will be to choose the dl version because you will have a important probability to not have the box except if you have family or/and friends who could take your box.

ARTICLE 7 : Tax reduction
Any product delivered electronically to an individual from a country member of the European Union to another country member of the European Union will automatically be subject to the VAT of the issuing country in this case France.
As I am in Panama which is not a member of the EU the above does imply that I am not subject to this tax.

I have never been charged VAT before this purchase (as a US customer purchasing from a EU vendor). It's an interesting question, to which I can't seem to find an easy answer online.
AGEoD is another French company that I have bought quite a few games from, and never paid VAT charges. Their policy is as follows:
"Any product acquired either electronically or physically will be charged with the tax rate applicable in the issuer’s country, in this case France. Clients living outside the European Union will be charged tax free, pending a declaration made at the user’s initiative. Companies residing in the EU and handling business with a partner who is also a EU member (from a country different than the one in which the company resides), must provide their intercommunity VAT number in order to be billed tax free."

So, we have to paid a VAT charge... Really sorry...

Sorry D3m0, that's not all in true.
In most cases you need a credit card, if you want to buy something outside of germany.
So I think the contrary of your statement is true, too.
But I think also the PayPal option is a good thing, for those who haven't a credit card.

We don't use creditcards either, but all our bankcards we get from our bank has a visa or mastercard number on them, so you can use them online, just see of it says visa or mastercard on your regular payment card

I made an order this morning but I do not see the additional forum for those who pre-order. I have closed my connection and reconnected, closed and logged-on as guest etc. but I see no change to the forum structure.
When placing the order there seemed no way of linking my forum user id to the order. Any advice?

My card is Maestro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maestro_%28debit_card%29) only, which I think is the standard here.

Maestro is just the debit card version of the MasterCard family.
So you don't get any credit, the money has to be on the account and is taken from there.

I just pre-ordered and was happy to discover that you can pay with PayPal, after all.
So I did and that is great, but you need to tell people on the front page of your shop.
I suggest adding an icon similar to the credit card icons.
