I was playing earlier today and watching the battlefield from the viewpoint of one of the corps commanders.  I took this screen shot and had to share it with you.  It's a good view of what a couple of corps look like when they're deployed  for battle and marching toward the enemy.  This is one of the reasons I love this game.

Press W to take a screen shot.  It will be saved in the Screen folder with a name like HistWar000.bmp.  You can load these into Microsoft Paint and save them as jpegs, which are much smaller.  You can attach a screen shot to a post by clicking on Additional Options and using the Browse button to find and select your screen shot.

This screen shot has been modified in Photoshop to make it lighter.  This is why some of the infantry appear lighter than the surroundings.

If you have any good views of the battlefield, please post them.

Very cool :)   If you can't see the picture it's because you have to log in :)

OK, stop right there...we are now on my #1 problem with the LOOK of HW.

Can some genius modder out there make the battlefield look like it does in Hooky's picture?  I'm a parade-ground painter (for this debate, please cf. http://theminiaturespages.com) and want the glorious battlefield.  I am surprised how dark it now sometimes seems.  Maybe I've spent too much time in GW stores (playing Trafalgar -- I SWEAR ;)) but I want my battlefield to look as it does in that photo...

Someone?

Anyone?

With my thanks,

Jim

P.S.:  BTW, I will be using this screenshot to demonstrate to folks why I think the NTW battlefields are unminitated rubbish.  THIS is what a Napoleonic battlefield looked like...*sigh*...thanks, JMM :)

A pair of images for Hook.  You can see that I learn ...  ;)

The map is only because I love the plans go well and this screen is a major reason why I love this game

Here's a link to my post about Gamma Panel, a utility that allows you to adjust the gamma or brightness.  This makes the game look very much like that screen shot.

Enjoy!

Hello Sirs Hook and Cyrano de Gascogne...

I have to take a few time to add a control for Gamma and some other parameters we can find on the graphic boards.
Just it wasn't a priority for this phase... but you can believe I'll add these controls ASAP...

Best Regards
JMM

More good news, Hooks suggestion is very good but I always find it's better to keep these things "in game" rather than having to go via external sources - that puts a lot of pc user's off......to be able to make ajustments through HW will be better.

In-game gamma control probably won't work in windowed mode.  Just so you know.

I don't understand that Hook.....what is JMM going to add if it won't work ?.

I find the battlefields do look a bit darkish, but not too bad, but the sky is VERY dark.

Hello Hook, I tried the gamma panel thing, very good suggestion, so simple to use as well - I will recommend that to the NBC guys of there not already using it.

Funny thing is, when I took a picture of "normal" which is a bit dark and "bright" which is a lot lighter the pictures look identical, you can not see the different, but in game there is a big difference.

The screen shots will look the same as the game if you look at them with the same gamma setting. :)  It doesn't really affect anything but the brightness of the screen at the time it's running.

Glad you found it helpful.

Of course, stupid me......one question hook, which keys do you use ?, because those keys can not be used for typing and doing other things - or have I done something wrong ?.

I don't use the key commands, I just click on the icon in the system tray and select the proper profile.  And I usually forget and start the game first, then have to ALT-TAB out or exit and fix the gamma.

I was thinking some control-alt keys might work.  They aren't normally used in typing, and only a few might be used by the game.

Excellent Hook, best NOT to use a key, right click the icon in the task bar and select from there looks the better option, but like you say - you need to remember it before loading up LG.

I tried a couple without any luck.
