Alfy, although I got a "Decisive Tactical, Overwhelming Strategic", you my friend have beaten me. Your CEH ratio is better than mine. Well done Sir!!!!
I do have to say this was the most buggy SOLO battle I have fought in a long time. I had 2 Corp taking a Defensive line instead of the Deploy line ordered, units freezing, and the best one yet a whole Corp of 8,000 attacking a single Allied Horse Arty Battery. They would not give up no matter what orders I gave them, eventually the Corps chased them off the map and returned to the fray. Another first was a Horse Arty unit in support of a cavalry regiment, the Cav regiment was done and leaving the field and the battery in support, who was in good order, was calmly following him off the map, I did manage to rescue them. I may be wrong but I have a theory that some of the fantastic scenarios created, are for some reason more prone to bugs. Alfy did you see anything unusual? No offence to scenario creators only big thanks for there efforts.

OK guys, hopefully this one is a little tougher. Marengo Scenario from the unnoficial depot. There's that big reserve Corp to the south, if AI uses it you're in trouble.

It is hard,I have played 2 times but the best is been the first and i have no other ideas.
The big reserve is not use by AI otherwise it is impossible to win.

And the final 2 screens. Note in the Battle Replay the Reinforcements appear in the center toward the West, in the Battle itself they arrived at my LOP to the North East. For some reason it didn't show on the replay.
Well fought On yours Alfy, the only constructive thing I can say, is watch your flanks but you ended up with a good win. You and I are going to have at it when MP/PBEM is fixed

Great Alfy. Arcis completed, I will wait until tomorrow to post the result. I hope to see some others take up the challenge, it's fun to see the results, screens, save files and compare tactics. After all fighting battles is the purpose of HLG, although after version 02, I think this topic will become a posting MP results topic more than SOLO.

Staten that auerstadt with OOB borodino is a free battle (no danger of burn nothing ) open a discussion with screen,analysis etc.
There is also a example di retreating successful (method Ajle ) and a bad attack to center(with long time to break).
This is my results:
My starting idea was only turn the front for gain to lops.

Probably my error.
Instead of build a defence line with a corp and with antother build attack enveloping i have attack with 2 corps in the same place.
Wait Ajle or someone for opinions.
Next screens reatreat with formation in Checkerboard .
Start command to Prince Eugene 9.25 strength 19500 guns 56.
In formation 10.12 strength 16350 guns 4.Almost all guns lost however.
For next battle i choose again free battle with OOB unbalance example Austerlitz119x144 to play with map of 15 km of Gunner24 with many elements in the map,it is good to talking about tactics with screens etc.

I really liked your map Alfy, the ceh was good for the 10k. However I still say roll on fighting Humans again :p :p HLG is superb and when JMM fixes the Grand Tactical AI to allow the enemy to change plans mid battle, SOLO will be far more challenging.

I love this topic, however when MP/pbem is fixed I think we should switch to posting those results. If anyone learns anything from these battles, it will have been well worth it. I hope there is a long term future for this Topic, well done General Chasse :smile: :smile:

And here I am! I chose to command the Grand Armée.
Initial plan was the following (see screenshot):
- Lannes and Davout to defend the left wing, with lanes forming a defensive line on the hills. Davout to support him.
- Soult to form a defensive line on the valley in the center.
- Mortier to take position over the heights located on the right wing, closely followed by Bernadotte.
- Murat taking the role of reserve to rest in the woods behind Soult.
The idea is to hold the left wing and center, protecting the LOP and to attract the enemy on the right wing, by threatening to attack with Mortier and Bernadotte. If the enemy attacks the left wing, he will hopefully weaken his center. Murat will then enter the play and penetrate the enemy's centre, enveloping either his right or his left, depending on the circumstances.
So, here is what happened, part I:
- 10:35: Troops are deployed. It is now obvious that the allied wish to take an attacking posture. They seem to have isolated their left wing, leaving it to defend their LOP. Bernadotte is ordered to advance a bit more, passing Mortier, in order to attract their left wing even more into isolation.
- 10:59: My left is seriously threatened, since it is where the enemy is concentrating his effort. Something must be done to relieve it. Taking advantage of the gap between the enemy's center and left, and the fact that Soult is being able to sustaing the center, Murat is ordered to play his role.
- 11:49: Murat's attack starts to have some effect. The enemy's center is weakened. The gap increases even more.

Part II:
- 11:58: The situation is still dangerous on my left. Soult must now turn to the left and Murat must envelop the enemy's right.
- 13:54: The enemy's center is wavering. Mortier and Bernadotte shall now advance and attack the enemy's left.
- 15:07: The enemy's right is now retreating. Mortier and Bernadotte advance a bit more.
- 15:30: The enemy is retreating everywhere.

Maybe you have not noticed, but I was victim of the already identified artillery unit bug. Just see how Murat's corps is significantly diverted to persecute an invincible artillery unit. :(

You have a very high score,perhaps you win also against General and Ajle.
At the end of results today it is the time of talk to increase the difficult and avoid that the players repeat the battle until reach a good result,until today was allowed but in future i think that is better not.
For this i think that the players at the start of battle send a mail to player responsible,in the mail can read the time and at finish send the sav files ,these two time must be compatible.
Or better post that start the battle and to finish post that has finish battle.The times of the posts must be compatible.
It is a challenge and the rules must be safe.
Then i think that enemy must to have a deployement fix and save , so all fight with the same difficult also to watch which strategy the players take for win better.
If these two rules are agree it possibile think to grognard (view CiC) , battle very difficult.
You agree or play freely only for comments?

Here are my battle screens taken from the replay, however I was hit by a strange bug. Units and whole Corps were not displayed in the positions they actually deployed to in the battle proper. I was bored with flank attack wins, so I refused my center and counter attacked from there with Soult and Murats Cavalry Corp in support, then I sent Murat to take and cut the LOP (a favorite tactic of Napoleon). :p

I have prepared a battle with Castiglione_satel map and following method EyleaHurricane with OOB Austerlitz119x144 a mission the type 'saving private Ryan' in which Bernadotte isolated and must be saved.
Ajle this map is to try to see is all ok, i send you for mail.
You need to run the battle pick up how map Castiglione_ryan and OOB the usual Austerlitz119x144.
Maybe to use for next battle,the winner must be save almost 1 unit of Bernadotte with the best result,it is is evident that corps of Bernadotte should remain unchanged as the starting.
The allied deploy is random every start that can help the players random but it is to do something of different.
At this map i have added a LOP, i think that it is important play the challenge with almost 2 LOP for many reasons .

Alfy, it was a damn close run thing as you will see from my screens tomorrow. My OG turned it, those guys are tough but if you commit them at the wrong time and they get beat (and I nearly did), it can make your whole army rout.

In these battles we are fighting, we are always heavily outnumbered, that's what makes it fun. This makes it almost impossible to deploy across your front to match superior enemy numbers; if you try to, you often leave yourself without sufficient reserves to counter attack. My basic tactic when outnumbered, is not to try to cover the whole front Corp for Corp, but to use the topography of the battlefield to create a defensive strategy that uses the minimum amount of troops to defend, so leaving enough troops for a counter attack. This usually means "Refusing" one flank or the center because you don't have enough force to cover all and keep a good sized reserve. I will use one or two reserve Corp to counter any attack in the sector of "Refusal", this usually leads to my counterattack developing. If the enemy doesn't attack my sector of "Refusal", then so well and good, he must be attacking my defense lines which leaves me to use my reserve at will, usually against a weak point that will give me a route to his LOP. I will usually use my OG at this stage, linking in support of a successful attacking Corp.
This whole strategy often leads to much reassignment of units during initial deployment. For instance, there isn't much point in having half your heavy artillery sat behind the lines for half the day so my outnumbered Defense Corp have a large disproportionate number of artillery reassigned to them, they may be outnumbered but they often have artillery superiority.
Similarly my reserve Corps are going to be moving quickly across the battlefield engaging and pursuing the enemy so I make sure they have Horse Artillery for this purpose. I can't cover every thing I do, but this is an outline. Hope it's of some help.

Congrats Alfy, great win. I was lucky not to be soundly beaten as you will see from my screens.
When you're outnumbered as we are in these battles flatter maps present bigger problems, not as much topography to take advantage of for defense. You let him come at you and he came just where you wanted him :p :p :p

OK, here are mine. One of the most difficult things I am learning in HLG is when and how to use the OG. Too early or the wrong place, spells disaster. If they rout you're whole army can rout. If you get it right, it can turn a battle.

In our initial screen the allied are not exacty the same.
At the start are random.
It is a pity because the challenge has not the same difficult.

I have tested it , for me ok.
This challenge is difficult beacause if you are winning the first red screen appear before duration of battle (8 hours).
Therefore we must do the mission during the battle.

Alfy and I are holding off posting our results, to give a chance for others to join in. This is an ideal battle format for those who want a challenge beyond the normal game. In essence not only do you have to win, you also have to take and hold the "Target" village behind enemy lines and you are outnumbered from the start, so join in. Marques and General Chasse, where are you?
Alfy et moi-même tenons hors de la validation de nos résultats, pour donner une chance pour les autres à participer. Il s'agit d'un format de bataille idéal pour ceux qui veulent un défi au-delà du jeu normal. Essence non seulement vous avez gagner, vous devez également prendre et maintenez le village "Cible" derrière les lignes ennemies et vous sont plus depuis le début, donc participer. I have some doubt of ceh loss calculation.
But is right? or is already know that is one thing to fix ?

I have suggestion to do a mini campaign with 3 battles with target of 1 village each.
This suggestion is similar to that received by mitra,a italian player.
Example 1)Austerlitz ceh start 119 144 to end 93 105 and target taken.
if you have target taken + 5 ceh for allied always +10
start next battle with 98 ceh against 115. For OOB we choose Orendel OOB closer to 98 for french and 115 for allied.
If not found exactly we take note of difference for final calculation.
Example we find OOB 90 105 play with this but french have a claim of 8 and allied of 10.
and so on.
At the end win if french have ceh largest of allied and better of the opponents.
We play all duration of battle not until first red screen , we choose map with duration of 8 hours.
What do you think or other ideas?

Start with the Austerlitz OOB the for the next one I think it is easier for the player to create a Random OOB of the exact strength for each side in the editor. There can be no manipulation for advantage, the player must create random OOB to exact strength needed WITHOUT manipulating any units.
This requires an element of TRUST but we are supposed to be "Officers and Gentleman" and if someone "Cheats", they are only cheating themselves :evil: :evil: :evil:

but to create a random OOB (example start next battle with 98 ceh against 115) the players must create a random of 115
for french and allied then must remove from french 17 ceh.
It is quite annoying.
However for me it's ok.

No Alfy, you don't have to do that.
Say you need a 98 against 115. First create a random 98 ceh for both sides, name it then delete oob.b (Allies) in the Histwar/Army folder. Next create random 115 ceh for both sides, name it then delete oob.a (France). You are left with a 98 for France and 115 for Allies.
Now you have an easy method of creating 2 precise oob's :smile: :smile:

I have played to first battle of mini_camp (Heilsberg) for challenge next week, is to play for both testsy.
I was surprised of the battle , very difficult.
1 freezing recovery with load save game then all ok.
Then i created OOB for next battle (Koingsberg) and i had repeat command create many times to reach exactly ceh determined.

It does sometimes take quite a few hits of the "Create" button. Helpfull hint, if you want a CEH of say 90, set the CEH slider to 95. Somehow this seems to get you there faster

The big problem on that mini_camp it is the final ceh to create OOB for next battle.
For me it is not right.
Ajle look at last result of our battles.
Compare % difference of strenght and % difference of ceh, it is too larger.
For me it is perhaps more correct the % of losses not the final ceh.

Just did that and the Arithmetic doesn't work, lets just use the final CEH strength for the following battle. I will post in Bug Reports

Ok good.
Now in doubt, to calculate the final ceh:
(Strenght final - strenght start)/strenght start *100 %loss of strenght ( example 40%)
Start ceh * (100-%loss)/100=final ceh
example 119 * .60=71.4 (final 72 ceh )
This method it is not exact (do not know coefficient of ceh for every unit) ,but it is the single easiest thing we can do.

Alfy, I'd just use the Final CEH figure for the next battle. In my post below that would be 90 France 106 Allies. I think it's the % calculation that's wrong not the Final CEH. To obtain a winner % I need to think, so back soon

The my idea it is to use your method to calculate the winner for to calculate the ceh final to use in next battle.
Example loss french with your calc is 23% therefore forces remained is (100-23)=77%
Start ceh * 77% =end ceh to use for next battle
119791*.77=92239 = 92 ceh
allied 144422*.46= 66434 =67 ceh

Alfy, the Allied CEH cannot be less than the French CEH whe they have more troops than the French at battle end

The next battle allied ceh always +10 (67+10)=77
french 92 if target taken +5 =97 if target not taken remain 92.
The challenge is at final battle final ceh french better then allied and better of opponents.
But you have win Heilsberg so much?

OK Alfy I am sorry to disagree but final CEH STRENGTH is CORRECT, it is the calculation of CEH LOSS % that is incorrect and should be ignored. Gunner24 and I have had this problem before and he uses the final CEH STRENGTH not loss % over at NBC for battle results.

It may not be but we have to use something and we can't have the Allies starting the 2nd battle with a CEH lower than the French when they had more troops left at the end of the first battle.

For the mini_camp we can do so:
The allied always 144
The french if winner and village taken + 5% in our case 119+5%= 124.95 (125 ceh)
If french not taken village nothing, in our case 119
2 battle target 2 villages
if taken 125ceh + 5% = 131 ceh for next battle
3 battle target 3 villages
Winner best ceh ratio and 3 villages taken of last battle

I liked your defence on the left, very effective with Lannes available to support counter attack. I love using "Combined Arms" to counter attack, a mixed infantry Corp with a Cav Corp in support is a devastating force. Taking Targets such as Villages and establishing Bridgeheads, will be far more efficient when we have Div/Brig control.

Yes, MUST switch sides at quit, so opponent watches replay as his side!!! This is really the only extra step
