Shareing map and OoB; Battle of Wertingen 8 Oct 1805
« le: 08 février 2010, 20:24:57 pm »
In order to learn how to use the map editor and OoB editor I have created a map and OoB for the historical scenario of Wertingen, the first clash in the Austerlitz campaign as the French were sweeping to encircle Ulm.
The map is a 10Km map shown in the mini map form:

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/view.php?id=1737745&da=y

and in 3d views

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/view.php?id=1737746&da=y

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/view.php?id=1737747&da=y

If you want to download the map files and the OOB you can:

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/1741488/wertingen-1805-nix-zip?da=y

(updated 11.00am 10/2/10 with improved names on OoB & Read Me and scenario file from comments in thread belo etc)

The Oob is for a small battle: Austrians about 6000, French about 11,000.

Do read the read me file before use! The read me has suggestion for initial deployments and time delays of orders to the French to produce the historical arrival times of the units:

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/1739305/read-me-doc-wertingen-30k?da=y

Note added later: N.B. as it says in the read me

PLAYER Vs AI MODE CAUSES A HANG at the red leather screen before the battle loads SO DONT DO IT

choose PLAY BOTH SIDES in solo mode and all is well.

enjoy

Hey nix,

a small mistake in your zip file. The folder Wertingen needs to be in a folder called maps.
That way, when unzipping, it's directly where it needs to be.
Going to playtest now.

I don't mean to tell you how to do anything, but I think I've an idea how to turn your scenario into a zip that everybody can easily install.  I'll post an example in a couple of minutes.

Cheers

Here's a zip file with the structure I mean:
http://rapidshare.com/files/347830412/Wertingen_1805.zip.html

I accidentally left out the readme, you need to include that.
There's an added scenario file. Same can be done for the delayed version.
Just extract into main Histwar folder and select scenario in solo mode.

Cheers.

Congratulations, nix.

@ moderators:
Maybe there should exist a section in the forums for posting user-made scenarios, maps, etc. Maybe in a subforum in the Mods section ??

You're welcome, nix.
Btw, it doesn't need to be a self-extracting archive. In fact it may not be a good idea. we had problems in the past with self-extractors for Total War mods. So, best to use normal zips but include the file structure.
You may like to know that it's possible to make an empty zip and drag and drop content to it.

I have added a link on my first post above to  a slightly ammended Read me file

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/1739305/read-me-doc-wertingen-30k?da=y

which has some suggestions for the time delayed orders to allow the french to appear in action at about the times they did historically when playing the Austrians in grognard mode ( with or without full view). also to emphasise :

set up in PLAY BOTH SIDES' mode

to avoid a hang of the program as it tries to calculate initial positions.

Great map, thanks for sharing!
One remark about the OoBs: All divions are made up of only one brigade, all brigades consist of only one regiment. You could change this by attaching multiple regiments to brigades and multiple brigades to divisions.

True; but at present the brigade and division are not seperatly controlable by the AI for larger forces and so make no difference in the game (and in this scenario anyway the austrians had gathered grenadier battalions from several different regiments and divisions). To construct the OoB for a small force (CEH50 or less) you automatically have only 1 corps and the controlable 'blocks' which normally are 'corps' in the game are now 'divisions'. For CEH larger than 50 the blocks are called 'corps' by the program.  These names actually correspond to bodies of different size for example the French were actually present as two corps (led by Lannes 5th corps and Murat Reserve cavalry corps) and within these there were the 5 divisions (in 11 Brigades)  led by the five named  officers I have leading 5 'Corps' (Oudinard, Klien etc). To get the program to have seperate control of these five Divisions  they are all given the status of 'Corps' even though historically they were divisions. It is a bit confusing but the point is  how many independent officers do you want in the game and at what level. This scenario selects the Divisional commanders on both sides as the @corps commanders' in the nomenclature of the game mechanics.

Afaik, you can give names to your corps in the OBEditor.
So, you could name your 1. Corps, 1. Division.

oh i missed that  Ill have to look at it...It would be better to call the 5 french corps here divisions if the name can be changed but the gathering into controlable groups in this scenario for the game will not change.

JMM may explain why the player can choose one camp or French allies. In these cases the game crashes or freezes instead. By choosing to tell the 2 sides play the game launches! What is wrong in this scenario?

Yves
