Complete Lindenau 1813
« en: 14 Febrero 2010, 03:22:07 am »
Hello Everyone !!

I just worked the last finishing touches and changes to Lindenau. The original scenario can be kept if its what you want.
This new and improved scenario has a Nafziger OOB  including Mensdorf Streifkorps   Arrighi's Leipzig Garrison supported by
the 4th Heavy Cavalry Division. (these were first on the scene)
Alas I could not include Thielman Streifkorps (1500 men) because of OOB drawing limitations and the absent Prussians....
(maybe JMM will suprise us all soon  ;) )

This new and improved scenario has Bertrand Corps arriving by division within 3 hrs of the start !   ....so Gyulai has a chance
to capture French strong point....careful of the counterattack coming across the bridge....I just watched my replay and
saw French troops marching across the bridge....WHAT A SIGHT ! :p :p (getting carried away...)
Austrians also have reinforcements.

25000 Austrians VS  18900 French

Improved Map environs from 'Napoleon and the World War of 1813: lessons in coalition warfighting
By Jonathon P. Riley

I put everything in Winzip file    Lindenau_1813 which has the usual files plus a Read me file a short commentary of the
historical events and the historical Austrian Plan of attack.

http://uploading.com/files/b41e46ab/Lindenau_1813.zip

...maybe it turns out to be a near run thing :) :)       The oob reinforcement can be played around with so you can experiment...

First of all, thank you for the superb work.  Don't know if it's a bug but, tried it twice and after an hour, I (Bertrand), was declared the tactical and strategic winner, when I clearly wasn't.
This happened both times, I have attached screen shots.  Basically, just before the battle was declared over, the C in C info windows in 2D, showed strengths

Bertrand - 18,053
Gyulay - 24,165

However, the "Stats" screen shows

Bertrand - 15,975
Gyulay - 7,258

As I had only fought for an hour, these latter "Stats" were impossible. Screen shots show "Stats", final positions of Armies and C in C windows.
Any ideas?

thanks a lot. But I also have experienced that the austrian reinforcements are still out of the map.
How do I make them enter? I can only chose rally all troops and can't give deploying/marching orders

Hello Theodiricus thanks for the question:  I don't have the book that Nazfiger wrote about the battle of Leipzig sad as it is
so in the 1st incarnation of the scenario, I borrowed the oob from Rafael Pardo site : Project Leipzig 1813 (miniatures)
but thinking to find the correct one, I kept searching asking specific question to the search engine until I run into it.
I have it and if you like I'll post it.

It would be nice if you could post it.  :D

JMM made a game we can play in almost historical conditions. So, I'm searching reliable sources (books and links) in order to create maps and OoB as authentic as possible. I admit it's not so easy. But for me, it's a very absorbing and instructive work to compare different battle's versions. The most difficult is to choose one of these. ;)

Many thanks again and again !

I hope this goes a long way in explaining the little 'reinforcement' problem
Thanks goes to Nix for responding. I'll work on some changes and repost

CHEERS

QUOTE :I think the reinforcements are , by design, subject to a random additional delay imposed after the time at which they are sheduled to enter (see manual p28 v2 -" The longer the time (from start of battle) the greater the difference between the time of their actual arrival and the time-frame which you have specified").

If yopu want reinforcements  to arrive at a particular time and along a particular direction, for a historical scenario you can do it by positioning the Corps on the edge of the map and issuing time delayed orders to it, then it will definitely turn up at the time specified.

I had a different problem with using reinforcements arrival , in that if a larger reinforcement force is sheduled to come onto the field than the one already there, the program detects this new part of your force as being 'out of field' and interprets them as runaways so ends the battle - you loose! (i have reported this on the bug thread)

In the actual battle, the Austrian commander left several detachments to guard his flanks and communications, so only near 20,000 Austrian troops were available, i.e. a number clearly insufficient to take Lindenau.

This happened to me as well, and it had to do with 'how long the game lasts' slider button
When I designed the scenario I had the slider up to 15 hrs....so I really don't know how it went back to 1
this goes in the same bin as 'reinforcement bug' already reported by Nix....I was not aware of it.

I'm re-writing the OOB and I'm leaving the slider alone  I will give a delay entry order to Bertrand Units
which will be at the map edge and will become active after the proper time has elapsed.
(Thanks To Nix for optimum problem solver) .

Hope this helps....I have re-written the French OOB tomorrow the Austrian I will post again

@ zuPferd

Thanks for your post about  Lindenau's OdBs.
I've found Rafael Pardo site : Project Leipzig 1813 (miniatures), which use OdBs from Nafziger and Smith's books.
