NBC is a group for MP Napoleonic gamers, we play any "Napoleonic" style MP games. At the moment that is Empire Total War "mod" TROM, ntw2, LG and Napoleon Total War as soon as it's released.
Anyone can be a general forum member regardless of other memberships elsewhere. However, we do ask that anyone who wants to be a full NBC member, using the NBC "tag" in MP games should not belong to another Napoleonic Clan.
Please take a look around and introduce yourself in the "Meeting Room" Forum if you register.

NBC are now starting to use Xfire for voice chat. Full info is here.
http://napbc.freeforums.org/post13307.html#p13307
xFire is FREE to use, it takes a few minutes to download and install, it is easy to make and save chat rooms for voice and type.
http://www.xfire.com/about_pro_voice/
It has 16 million users ????????????????????????.
-
To avoid any confusion, this is NBCs current rule about voice chat in LG.
1. Voice chat in game is allowed, for general game discussion and social chit chat.
2. Voice chat in game is NOT allowed for giving help and advice on game play tactics and orders - that should be done with the in-game F9 system.
The rule applies to "real" games, voice chat is used as much as wanted in training and testing battles, to help new people understand all the game features and operations.
If other organisations want to use voice chat in battles, NBC will "go with the flow".....we prefer to use the F9 system, as brillently designed by JMM, but if others insist on real voice chat NBC will not refuse to battle against them.

Gunner is soooo right about the usefulness of Voice chat for training purposes. We fight a lot of MP training battles and the ability to "Pause" and discuss a situation or behavior is an invaluable learning tool. Why did that happen? what did you do to cause this behavior? etc..

Since using voice chat NBC have now changed their idea's on using it. Due to LG being such a complex game we now use voice chat with BOTH sides being on the same voice channel, so everyone in the game can hear each other, so using F9 is still very, very, very, important, but some voice chat can also be used, like saying
* "turn east, not west as per the last F9 message".
* move the 6th Corps north near that village we were trying to hold in F9 message"
* "Don't move near the river like you were planning to do".
With both sides being able to hear each other it becomes impossible to "cheat" too much as you will be heard by the other side - unless your giving falsh information of course !......all in all the F9 combined with real live voice chat makes the game even more enjoyable, and more sociable.
NBC current policy :
To avoid any confusion and mis-understanding the following now applies to all NBC MP games :
1. Voice chat in game is allowed if wanted.
The reasons for the change are :
Quote:1. It is a lot more fun !...and that's why we're all here.
2. There is NO way to know who is using it, if it should not be used.
3. The game is so complex that any help using voice chat should be welcomed.
4. No one has to use voice chat if they don't want to.
5. Full use of F9 orders can still be used to draw the plans.
6. We need it before the game starts to check all kinds of things, OOBs , Doctrines, Maps, Battle length, all this is too much to do on type chat. If we are using voice chat to get the game started, turning it off after the start seems odd to say the least.
-
I think Gunner 24 omitted to say that we do use separate Allied and French Chat rooms for pre Battle deployments and planning etc....
-
use separate Allied and French Chat rooms for pre Battle deployments and planning
That is an option for those that enjoy long planning sessions, like.......AJ....ha.......come one guys, lets get going, who are we waiting for, oh it's me !!, ha.
Only kidding, this very usefull, one side go into a seperate room, make their plans and then everyone returns to the main lobby to fight.

NBC is starting it's 4th Campaign "Generals at War 4 the Peninsular Campaign" GAW4 Campaign map is now using FOW and Scouting forces details of the Campaign here http://www.webjam.com/nbc_gaw/mtm_starting_positions
To sign up go here http://napbc.freeforums.org/gaw4-peninsular-war-generals-t3315.html
This will be the first of our Campaigns featuring British OOB's thanks to the Peninsular/Waterloo Modding team
Example of how the FOW works below

Hi all,
Very interesting as a campaign concept, using only a hex map?
--------------------------
Très intéressant comme concept de campagne, vous utilisez seulement une carte hexagonale ?
Kiva.
-
Hello, yes, the hex map to "plot" the formation moves (in ceh strength, like 5ceh for scouts up to max 250ceh for main army) and then HWLG to fight the MP battles when they arise. We have made scouting an important feature and sometimes, depending on the strengths, there could be small very small battles which might interest some people more than the very large battles as they will be quick and easy to fight.
We have done our best to try and keep it very simple and enjoyable and hope this explains things http://www.webjam.com/nbc_gaw
-
We experimented with a few different formats. We actually ran "Campaign Tests" with different formats. The first map attached is our last Campaign Map GAW3 and the second is one that we tested and rejected. The Hex Map gives better options for movement and FOW. The most interesting addition to the rules, made necessary by the FOW, is the Scouting formation that can move 2 Hexes at a time (5-15 ceh Light Cavalry only). Our intent with the new Campaign, is to bring the realism of the FOW Battle Options to the Campaign as a whole.

NBC have a "hard core" of HW players [MP and PBEM] and are always pleased to have more join the ranks.
Please call by and say hello in the "Meeting Room" forum if you would like to join us.
GaW5 is coming to a vital stage and advanced planning for GaW6 has started, so when 5 ends we can take a short break for 7-14 days and then start GaW6, which, of course, will be better than the previous five.
-
The NBC GaW format is now fine turned and ready to go for more games, please see here :
http://www.webjam.com/nbc_gaw
New members for HW games are always very welcome, please call in and say hello in the meeting room forum here :
http://napbc.freeforums.org/index.php
-
Since the last Campaign finished we are having a short break. The GaW Campaign will be adjusted again after some valuable lessons from the previous one, and will be (hopefully) ready for HW2.
In the meantime we are very close to launching a GaW "Battles" format for use between campaign battles.
Everyone is welcome and full details will be on the NBC forum soon.
-
Latest news : We are waiting for the final HW1 patch before starting GaW Battles and are working on the new style Campaign ready for HW2.
GaW forum on NBC forum can be found here, all welcome to join in :
http://napbc.freeforums.org/nbc-gaw-campaigns-and-battles-with-hwlg-f205.html
-
The early stages of the next GaW Campaign have been completed.
Full information is here -
http://www.webjam.com/nbc_gaw
This has been designed with an umpire to handle almost all the "work".
From now until HW2 arrives we will do some testing of the basic idea, volunteers most welcome, please contact g24 over at the NBC forum, or here.
-
Three Army Commanders are now in place and full speed ahead "testing" starts in a few days time, still room for others who are interested.
-
All movement now made up to day 8, no contact yet, but scouts can not be more than a day or two away from each other.
-
Day 12 arrives, and with it "first contact".
Action 1 (minor, no MP battle).
2pm Mar 12th, day 12.…darkness falls at 6pm, any action will be for FOURS hours.
Both sides scouts have seen each other around the town BRDOW and report a main enemy formation close behind. Detailed numbers are not know as the enemy scouts are blocking attempts to get that information.
One Austria scout was cut off with 1 man killed and 4 forced to surrender.
The French suffered no loses.
No other action took place, both sides scouts are keeping watch at a safe distance around the blue and orange lines shown on the map.
BOTH sides now have the following options :
1. Halt and deploy, ready to attack or defend.
2. Deploy and advance to attack the enemy.
3. Withdraw.
The campaign is now “frozen in time” for a MAX of 3 days until both sides have given their instructions.
It is still day 12 until this is resolved, all other formations have ended their day 12 movement.
This is roughly what will happen every time two formations are MARCHING towards each other and meet before the end of the days march. There will be exceptions, but generally this is how it will work.
It will be slightly different if BOTH not marching.
-
Quick replies from both Commanders :
Day 12 : Possible action was avoided.
The French Cav advanced to attack, but the Austrians were already withdrawing.
FROM THE WEBJAM
* When one side has elected to attack, and the other to withdraw, the attacking side will pursue the withdrawing side who WILL lose more men while withdrawing than the pursing side.
Austria lose 60 men
France lose 30 men
French Cav halted at BRDOW (end of days time) and Austrians withdrew south down the road.
DAY 13 move will be done next with new map and OOBs, tomorrow afternoon if possible.
New players welcome at any stage, this is a "live" test and room can be found for anyone interested.
-
Day 14 now, day 15 map updates will be tomorrow afternoon.
Test all going very well, by far the best gaw game NBC have worked on in three years.

NBC are now getting ready to start the EW game, due to start on or about 15th July.
Please see the HW part of the NBC forum for full information -
http://napbc.freeforums.org/index.php
New members always welcome, but NON members are also free to join in as well. Anyone taking part can do as little or as much as they wish, from Commanding a single Corps, to a whole Nation.
EW is a "war", not a campaign, using 11 maps covering most of Northern Europe.
HOW IT WORKS is here -
http://napbc.freeforums.org/european-wars-how-it-all-works-forum-f221.html
THE MAPS and production (pps) details are here -
http://napbc.freeforums.org/european-wars-maps-pps-and-reports-forum-f225.html
GENERAL DISCUSSION is here -
http://napbc.freeforums.org/hw-ew-discussions-f217.html
-
NBC is now almost entirely concerned with ntw3(hb), HW (EW) and HW/PBEM.
New members (or guests) are always welcome.
EW has reached week 5 with no "technical" or rules problems.
The maps, and formation positions on the maps, are easy to follow and understand, the non MP battles are simple to resolve and help to keep things moving when no major actions need to be fought.
Everyone is welcome to join in, places available at any time, please call in at the NBC forum and say hello in the meeting room if interested.
HOW IT WORKS is now here -
http://napbc.freeforums.org/ew-how-it-all-works-last-update-20-8-13-t6018.html
-
NBC is now "officially" a Napoleonic Gaming CLUB, we are NOT a Total War Clan.
http://napbc.freeforums.org/index.php
-
NBC is now a HW ONLY Club, we now have no connection with TW gaming, HW only from today.
-
NBC has been closed for several years, although the forum was always kept open.....just in case.
I now have a new laptop which can run HW and so NBC is kind of back open - if anyone is interested.
I have v5.564 on my laptop and in over 50 solo games, getting used to things after a very long break, I can report not one single crash or freeze or other serious technical problem. Excellent.
Also really good news is, all my old maps are working, again without any problems.
I am very pleased with the current state, much improved over the game from 5 years ago.
-
Pleased to hear that things are going in the right direction for you and veterans are on stand-by-mode.
-
Hello Lancier, some of them might be in the HW depot, but it was all so long ago [6+ yrs] I have forgotten even how to share them.
I had saved all the maps from the HW maps folder to the hard drive on a really old PC (a 1990 one !) that I had just in case I ever needed them again. Good job I did.
