I feel thick but see if you can save me trawling blindly through the manuals. Just directing me where to do my reading would be enough. Those who help are eligible for a cartoon sketch of themselves of G d Divisions (after providing a suitable photo)!
1. How do I save a game? I can't find the option!
2. How do I exit the terrain editor?
3. How do I add hills to the terrain in the terrain editor?

1. How do I save a game? I can't find the option!
If you leave the game if saves automatically and you can re-load it. I would personally appreciate an extra option to save a game (with my own file name).
I can't answer the other two questions as I couldn't figure them out myself.

3. How do I add hills to the terrain in the terrain editor?
2/I had to use "task manager" !.
3/I hear this feature is not available yet ?.

Can I second that please

2- there is an exit trigger inside the map editor, or in the menu there is an exit just at the bottom
3- adding hills (as posted in editors help) is done by selecting hill, dragging and dropping the mouse UP and DOWN to make larger or smaller hills (i am accostumed to beta version and i did not have the time to open map editor in release)

This can be done if you use "MapEdit" from the folder ...\HistWar. The 'altitude' is missing in LGDN.exe but not in MapEdit.

The 'altitude' is shown in LGDN at the top of the 2D map and at the top of the minimap in the 3D view.

Perhaps I misundertood, in that case excuse me.
But I replied about editing a map and modify the relief.

Regarding saved games, I had right from the start lots of them, although I hadn't played yet. Added bonus ??
And, is it possible to organize them chronologically - ie the latest one top of the list ??
(better yet, a resume last saved game option, but maybe too much work...)

I probably misunderstood too :)
The first demo didn't show the elevations in the game. The second demo does, but I think a lot of people didn't notice it. The map editor obviously has to, and it's at the top of the screen.

Hehe, mate, I think the question was not to show but to modify the elevation of the terrain in the map editor.
And this is only feasible actually when starting the MapEditor.exe in the folder HistWar ;)
Cheers, GP.

Not it's not, I've made a map with a big high ridge, no problem, what you do is, when you start the map editor, you just start by typing in a name, like the name of the map, that lets to start a map from blank, when the map is black you can edit the elevation

Ah, ok. I thought it was really obvious that the terrain couldn't be edited in LGDN, and that's why we have a map editor. I didn't realize someone might think the elevations could be edited in LGDN.

I assure you from lgdn.exe the menu from edit map doesn't display an elevation option. I am absolutely sure of that.
The sole explanation for me is you could perhaps own another version of lgdn???

Now I'm confused, I'm talking about the histwar.exe, the one that give the menu were you can choose map, doctrine, and OOB editor. option and the game.
from there you can choose map editor, and you CAN edit hight of the terrain. thats all I'm saying

And you're absolutely right. Don't worry about it.

I might not have followed the thread right ...but i think what everyone is not saying is ....you have to edit terrain elevation FIRST before anything else ..or the option for it disappears
-
And it would seem that if I do elevations first I cannot then do a River.
-
There is a specific order you have to do things when making a map. For example, rivers have to go in before elevations. The entire list is in the manual in Book 2. I figure if I make enough maps, eventually I'll have the list memorized. :)

Regarding earlier comment about not being able to specify names of save games, this is a shameless plug for the tips thread on the the grenadiers forum.
Basically rename it in explorer and it will show up in game menu as an option for resume game (load game) & video replay.
Cheers

So, in answer to my own dumb questions and, YES, after reading the relevant parts of the manual and fiddling about...
The most useful commands are found by scrolling into the top of the screen where the 'scroll' showing the height and distance factors. A menu pops down offer all sorts of goodies, including generate random map, saving, and heading back to the main menu (ie. exit)
Once again (as with the demos) I find myself passing from a stage of disorientation and frustration in that the game doesn't have an immediate 'Mac-like' intuitive (some might say 'moron-proof') feel to realising the thrill of its depth and potential.
By using the menu(s) that drop down, you can add hills by choosing that option, clicking on the centre point of the rise and scrolling the mouse left or right (or forward). I've done this both before and after creating rivers. It does not change the level of the river (but does limit the line of the hill).
Thank you all for your help. Any of you who want cartoons in uniform, PM me a photo and I'll see what I can rattle off. :) Ta.
