Saving an OoB? How?
« le: 19 février 2010, 13:37:03 pm »
I do so hate to be the village idiot but I don't seem to be able to save my OoBs I've made.  I hit save in the editor, it says 'done', I quite and say 'yes' to the extra 'do you want to save' question.

Then, when I load the OoB, it's empty.  What am I missing?

Check both sides in the OoB.  If you've only made one side, the other will be empty.

Ta mate but what I'm doing is creating an Austrian OoB for a 100CEH PBEM game.  My opponent has provided me with his Russian OoB.  However, I think I'm saving but when I reopen the OoB for editing, it's empty.  When I load it in a solo game just to see if it really is there but I can't see it in the editor, well, it's not.  It's empty.  I hit all the save stuff I see but no result.  Surely I'm missing something obvious...     No doubt the penny will eventually drop!

Yes, but did you check both sides in the editor?

If you're doing an Austrian versus Russian battle, the Austrians will have to be on the French side.

Thank you Hook.  THAT is the answer.  The Austrians are on the 'grande armee side of the register' as I have it set for 1812.  Knew I must be missing something!

That might get strange :D   I guess it's ok as long as you have the opposing sides on different sides in the OoB editor.

Let me know how all this works out, would you? :)

Ok.  Well, we can't get our armies up.  I've loaded my opponents russians as allied and mine as french.  He has no army as he built them on the french side, as I  built my Austrians there!

I've just tried to save my Austrian OoB in the '_B.oob' file and loaded each army again, but still my austrians don't turn up.

Hmm... is there a automatic way to transfer troops from the french side to the allied side or do I need to rebuild my OoB as allied from the start. *sigh*

It makes me wonder why there is a need to define the difference at the building stage.  Why not just have oobs and load them into the different sides at the point of setting up a battle?  Is that naive or is it a suggestion for the evolution forum?
