For each regiment, around 10 textures:
- chief of battalion
- NCO
- flag
- drummer
- voltigeur
- grenadier
- sappeur
- fusilier
- colonel
- sometimes a general de brigade

The gamer can paint some parts of uniform in the editor of OoB.

Bonsoir Soldats,

Good preview... the uniforms are superb... I hope there is some room for Italian, Spanish and British uniforms in the future...

However, it would seem that some of the uniform details become a bit blurry or fuzzy when stretched over the 3d model...

Cordially, Duc d'Earl

Italian are in Les Grognards.. and a lot of small countries...

Yep.. small problem about the uniforms.. and I have to avoid this small defaut.. Don't worry!

Bonjour Soldats,

The straps, belts, buckles, buttons, coat & pant piping, epaulettes, packs, etc.... do seem to be much better with the new parameters... more crisp, clear and less fuzzy...

About the collars... I cannot see any colored piping... they look very plain without any regimental detail...

On the turnbacks some of the coats... should not there be embroidered decorations?... such as a Flaming Grenade emblem, Regimental number, Romanov Eagle, etc.?... or something like that?..

Also, is it just me... or do the arms of the 3d models look too short?... or are the legs too long?... my eyes must be playing tricks on me... hahahahahahahaha

What about canteens, bayonets, small swords?.. the usual gear hanging from the belts and straps?... will these items be included with the uniform?

Cordialement, Duc d'Earl

:D some pieces are colored in Real  Time.. with the color you chose in the OoB editor. (In these screenshots, the color is a light grey)

there are 10 textures per unit.. and we just displayed the 'basical soldier".. wait for the next show

yep  I said in the french topic the mesh wasn't finished. Laurent have to work on the mesh again

All these elements are included by the final software (in real time)

Bonjour JMM,

These 3D soldiers are looking better and better each day.  :D

I love the Napoleonic era mostly because of the splendid uniforms so the soldier’s uniforms are for me just as important as the game play.
Simplified and unhistorical uniforms would really have turned me off, which is not the case in this game.  8)

Nice job by the way and thank you for shearing.  :!:

One thing I've been thinking of since you mentioned, now and before, that the gamer can paint parts of the uniform. What parts can be painted?

It was a pity to go for slaughter in such beautiful uniforms indeed...

Link : "One think I've been thinking of since you mentioned, now and before, that the gamer can paint parts of the uniform. What parts can be painted? "

We (JMM, Laurent and I) had had discussion on this topic two weeks ago... I was mentioning the example of Combat Flight Simulator; each player being able to change textures of planes in order to fly with its own personal plane… I imagine changing the stagy uniforms of Murat… 8O

BUT… on another hand I think I’ll need time to master Les Grognards, thus changing (Improving?) uniforms won’t be my first task… In addition I don’t know how such changes will be applied in case of MP battles ???? Aren’t we going to deal with graphical conflicts if each gamer has applied its own improvement to uniforms…

Hi Frédéric,

I was merely thinking of changing  the colors in order to create the different allies that might be missing.

Or for instance change the color of the lapels for the dragoons depending on regiment. Etc, etc...

But of course if all the different uniforms will be in there from the start there is no need to change any thing.

Bonjour,

Here is the faces you can paint...

There are two editors.. so it will be not possible to change the textures of Les Grognards

Pardon, but isn't the lapel (marked green in the picture above) a texture? :?

Link... ain't no good using sarcasm !
But looks like this is what I also call a texture. Perhaps colors could only be changed through a tool specially disigned for...
JMM thus mean we cannot widely change textures ?

:D No problem Lars... :D

Frédéric likes the jokes

About the color.. I just use the same process like the background in the game.. All textures are grey.. and they are colored in real time...
So it's possible to get a lot of colors... Is it clear? yep

For the uniform, we use a white texture with some objects on it (buttons...). The objects aren't colored.. only the cloth...

I am not smart enough to be a 'hard-core modder'... so this concept is appealing to me... it seems that it will be very easy to change the uniform details by selecting units from the OoB... this will work for me!...

I hope that everything will connect together with this feature... otherwise, the uniforms will look very strange indeed....

If "colored in real time" means that a program paint the textures during play then I understand.

What will the actual size of the soldiers be in the game at the closest zoom in? Like the first screenshots in this topic or perhaps half the size? 200 pixels were mentioned in an other topic but that doesn't say me much.

Laurent and I are working on the optimized 3D meshes and textures to get the best size...

For very nice configuration (3 GHz + ATI Radeon 9800 XT for example), maybe it's possible to draw 400 infantrymen like the upper scrreenshots (full screen.. like RTW) but if the PC is a low configuration, the program draws small 3D soldiers (around 50 pixels high .. like MTW)...

The idea is : Locking the point of view to get the best view with the gamer's PC. (Clear  :?:   )

That would really be a shame with those nice 3D soldiers!

Does this means that the display will depend on what configuration the gamer have and not one display that fit all i.e. the lowest configuration will be your system requirement?

Looking great JMM.  Can't wait to see some detailed animations of them in game.

As for proportion.. it looks to me like the legs are too long... or/and the arms are too short.  When standing upright, arms down at the side, the finger tips should reach mid thigh.

Right Bil.. the arms are too short
Don't worry  We have the good tool to get the correct length.

I believe we can show a lot of new Screenshots on the next monday  (maybe all infantrymen 8) )

For the animations.. patience   :elephant:
