Why (without good results )?  
 Is not more bright with gamma=2.2 ?

I worked on this procedure one year ago but the results were not good.
Now, the new code runs fine  ;)

This is really good news, as for me this was the biggest visual problem!

Almost bed time here, but I took a quick look on the 3d view with the RC5 patch and what a great improvement, really very very good.....at last no more fighting in the dark !!!!.
