So, we know now that TW-AI kinda sucks.
HWLG is seen as very good (and I concur, only did a few battles but it's really nice).

Where can we place Take Command? I might buy that game too, instead of NTW.

I can only tell you that TC2M is a great game as well...MUCH better as NTW!!!
the team of TC2M will release a new game this month...it's about Gettysburg...looks pretty good as well...

concerning the AI...I was beaten by the AI of TC2M several times...unfortuantely it has no MP option...which the new game WILL have...

I wouldn't compare it with HWLG, because it's different...but it is a lot, lot, lot better than NTW...

Could you tell me about the differences with HWLG? Or point me to discussion on it (there surely must be one...)

Take Command: Second Manassas has a good demo that should give you an idea of how that game is different from HWLG.  I've played the tutorials in that game more than anything else and they're quite fun.

The Tc2M AI is good, however the battle is challenging when the player is just doubled by the AI armies in number of units.

Many times in TC2M the Oobs are done to have a bigger force against a weaker one.

Anyway i can say that game has a real good AI.

Concerning HWLG the AI is really well for the Corps level; Corps react to near threat, advance or retreat regarding the enemy in front and player moves; however the Grand Tactial AI needs some tuning in changing plans during battle and in exploiting player mistakes.

That said i am happy with AI in Hwlg.

For NTW i can't say, however i saw in total wars forum that many users complaint that General unit always makes suicides advances, cavalry just charges at the beginning of the battle... it seems more a medieval AI with Napoleonic figurines.
