Great scenario when playing with the French. But yesterday I tried to play with the Austrians and the French just adopted an unhistorical defensive posture and did not move.
Is there a way to change the scenario so that the French will adopt an offensive/objective-driven posture?

António

Thanks ! I'm happy that you enjoy this scenario.
In fact, to play the most historical battle as possible, you should choose Commanding both side and beginnig to give orders to one side and then take the command of the other side (with the C key).
I think French don't move because they have to cross the river and the bridge, which is an obstacle and might cause problem.

Hope that in the near future they will had the possibility of defining geographical-driven objectives to the game, e.g.:
- Occupy area with at least X units
- Expel all enemy units from area

Until then, I'll follow your suggestion.

Regards,
António

Amreg, We are using a geograhic Victory Points map over at http://napbc.freeforums.org/lg-generals-at-war-gaw-forum-f97.html.  I have incuded a screenshot here for anyone who is interested. Basically we award extra VP's for taking and holding geographical locations.

Thanks ajlewisbrookes!

But if I understand, you are taking this points into account outside the game, right?

Yes, we use them to tally the final VP's for the 2 Armies.  HLG doesn't award VP's as a system of winning, it bases victory on CEH. At nbc we use a combination of CEH and VP's.  For HLG to use a VP system, which it would need for geographical possession, JMM would have to rewrite a lot of the program.  This is a happy medium between the 2 and no extra work for JMM.
Come over and try it, we need a few more Allied Commanders.
