I tried to make a map of the battlefield of Eichberg (19 Mai 1813) based upon the battlefield in GoogleEarth, but when I launched, the scenario wouldn't load. (red leather background) It was a 6 km map, unfortunately, so I suppose this is the reason.
Another problem I had - apart from the restriction making it difficult to have the historic battlefield with many woods - was that, when I draw a bent road, I always get another road taking the shorter, direct distance, so I end up with two roads having the same begin and end. Anyone else having that problem ? Moreover, impossible to erase that other road.
Other question : can anyone confirm that it is impossible to erase an object once you have saved your map, e.g. when reopening it to make changes?
DominiqueT,
you're doing all of this on 6km maps which are currently bugged. So, there's no easy way to tell if you are doing anything wrong.
I also had the problem with the forest. First, I was using it like a brush, painting whole hills with it. That way I very quickly used up the limit of trees. I had about 1/4 of the area painted that I wanted. So I went and deleted every second tree or so, especially at the map borders. I'm not 100% satisfied with this solution but it looks okay. (Have a look at my Teugn-Hausen map).
Your road problem is really curious. I haven't seen that yet. Roads have disappeared for me after placing a building (Town) near the endpoint of that road. You have to pay close attention to your mouse pointer when drawing roads. Towns and other buildings seem to have a point of connection for roads, indicated by a yellow (?) bar under the pointer. If you start a road, it's a good idea to connect it to a town first. (Also, first draw the buildings, then the roads) Then keep the mouse button pressed and slowly draw the road. If the road goes from building to building, make sure you get that mouse pointer indication for the connection on the end point. (You probably know this already).
I've had similar problems with drawing a brook. After finishing the brook, I've placed another object and "poof", suddenly I've had a hook in my brook. Going at right angel for a km or so. I wasn't able to delete that brook. I had to start over. So, it's possible to mess up maps beyond fixing. I suppose a similar thing happened to your roads.
Erasing objects is normally possible. I loaded up the Austerlitz map and deleted the first redoubt that shows up on 3D view. Works without problems. I've also been able to go back to my custom map and delete trees. I think, if this doesn't work for you, then it's clear that the map is broken.
